  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How Do You ...

Hi gals and guys I'm a new member here and I am a Christian. I recently accepted Jesus to be Lord over my life and heart this past New Year's Eve. Everything is going pretty well and He's making my life shine brighter and brighter each day with a billion and one blessings in each! :)

But, there's this one problem I have. See, I have been praying to God to work in my life on certain things and nothing was happening. Then, He revealed to me that the reason nothing was happening was because I wasn't coming to Him with enough FAITH. And that's why He couldn't do anything for me, yet. :(

So, my question to you gals and (guys who come here ;))is: what do you do to keep your faith in the Lord up and how do you keep it up w/o letting the devil come in and put that little bit of doubt in your heart? I mean, I know God's power, I've seen His power work in my life and the lives of others very close to me, but I am still having a bit of trouble....and I've been reading my Bible daily and trying to really BELIEVE that God will work in my life. I'm trying...Pray for me!

Welcome to the family of God!

Here's some good verses to remember. They help me out a lot when I have those kinds of issues.

Philippians 4:6-9
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things.
The things you ahve learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things; and the God of peace shall be with you.

I've learned that sometimes I get to thinking about things that cause me to doubt or that are not true. I've also learned that if I focus on the truth my faith is restored. The Lord is my stronghold!

Greetings 2-B: A journey of a 1,000 miles, always begins with the first step. Seems the journey has begun for you. Maybe later, if you wish, I will write to you about "God painting Tom Sawyer's fence".
Just remember, "Let's keep the main thing, the MAIN THING".
Blessings

Well, I can tell you this right off. "Believing" is not something you have to try to do. It is a choice we make, and either we do or we do not. So if you are "trying" you are not believing. That simple. But do not think that when you pray and do not get what you have prayed for that God has not answered. Many times He says NO. Pure and simple. Many other times He answers and we just don't see the answer because we are distracted looking for something else.

James 1:6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.

As for as keeing your faith up. Simple. BELIEVE! And believe not only what you READ in the Bible but what you STUDY.

Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

You must focus on Jesus as Peter discvered when he walked on water and took his eyes off JESUS. We must keep our focus on HIM!

Welcome to the forums, and be blessed and grow in Jesus. We are glad you are here and it is a pleasure to welcome a new sister into the Family of God!

Welcome happy2besaved! I am glad you have joined us!

I think our faith in God grows and strengthens the more we trust him. The more we trust that he will show us want he has for us. I think sometimes answers to our prayers take time. Some come instantly, but others take time to develop. That doesn't mean that God isn't listening or doesn't care. But sometimes it takes God working on us to move us to the place were we can receive an answer. And as Gerry posted, sometimes that answer is no. But here is where trust and faith come in again. We have to have faith that the no answer is what is best for us. Even when it may be something we desire very much.

Hope this helps!

Greetings Happy2B: I should have used the title, God's instruction on Painting Tom Sawyer's fence. Remember in the Tom Sawyer story, where he was instructed to paint the board fence? Picture a fence made of wide boards 1x12's 8 foot high which incloses the property, about 200 boards in total. As Tom gets prepared to start painting, a voice comes from the house and says, "Tom, Paint the fence"....."Both Sides."
Our lives are like this fence, and each board represents a shortcoming or failure in our lives.  Also the fence has two sides, there is the side which everyone gets to see, and another side which only you and God sees. We, like Tom, tend to start painting the fence by starting at board #1, when finished we move onto board #2, then board #3 and so forth. But in God's plan, God may start on board #99 outside, then jump to board #4 outside, then jump to board #25 inside. It doesn't matter which board He choses to paint, He just knows which one is of the most importance to paint at that time. Just because one doesn't see board #1 getting painted, doesn't mean God hasn't begun the paint job. Sometime, when we don't notice any work beening done, God is working on the inside.
I said all that to say this, what one sees as important to them,
to paint at the time, may not be where God wants to paint then. Trust God to know where to paint. Be patient, God at work on a beautiful life.  Our Lord is never early, nor is He late, He is always on time.

Our Lord Jesus Bless, Keep and give you eyes that you may see His hand upon your life.

Blessings

Ken
