How do you write best?

Well? Do you prefer to sit at a desk with no distractions? sit in the forest with a notebook? the middle of the mall with a ipod plugged into your ear? Wherever your favorite place to write is, I want to ear about it After a few people have gone, I'll let know what I do

I use Microsoft Word to write and I prefer to write when its quiet. It gets my brain's creativity awakened.

I like to write on loose-leaf paper in a 3 ring binder, while sitting on my bed and listening to music (the kind of music depends on the scene I'm writing or what character I'm working on. One character was written to "Another Mistake" by Tysen, and I'll admit that I like him better than the protagonist). Preferably alone, with my door closed, but if one of my sibs is in there, then they know they need to be quiet and only talk if their butt is on fire.

i don't suggest this but it happens to be when i write the most. i write during class. you sit there, taking notes, half-listening to the prof ramble on and on about... the progressive era and your mind starts to wander. yup! a good portion of everything i've ever written was penned during class.

Sort of depends on what I'm writing. If it's the actual story itself, then I write on the computer with some music on. If its not the story but information on the story or a rough draft then I do what oncewaslost does and write it during class (Spanish and Math class preferably).

Math class seems to be when my ideas are most vivid, but I can't put them into words until after school. Health class, however....That class was so boring, I'd just get the assignment, do it quick, then spend the rest of the period writing.

i write best at night, sitting on my bed with my notebook and mechanical pencil, and with the fan on high. i write my rough drafts on paper, but when i'm editing i have to use the computer. i prefer to be alone, or, since that's next to impossible since i share a room with my sister, with other quiet people. my sister is very quiet and she's a writer too, so that works out just fine. sometimes i write at school when i'm bored too, but usually i don't cause then my friends want to know what i'm doing and try to read over my shoulder and i get nervous and can't write.

I write on my computer, so I need... well, power, for one.

Ok, but seriously... few distractions, music that keeps the mood of the scene is very helpful... a boost of inspiration... thats pretty much all I can think of.

I find that I do my best writing when it's dark outside, and perfectly quiet. But those are impossible conditions. I also use my computer, for the sole reason that it's much neater, and I can type faster than I can write.

But I'm flexible.

Tolkien created the Hobbit from something he scribbled on a paper he was supposed to be grading! Writing in class is a good thing

Ok...I learned here at college that I cannot write without distractions It doesn't feel right unless I need to tune everything out and concentrate. Isn't that quirky

All depends on what I'm writing...if it's one of my epic fantasy types, I put on music from the Lord of the Rings or Narnia, or something like that...if I'm writing my Old West stuff, I want it quiet...if I'm writing something contemporary, I click up the volume on my favorite band...or just go silent, if it's a more serious/dramatic scene...
And I write fastest at the computer...my fingers can type and keep up with me a lot better than my hands can with writing on paper...but I'll do that, too, if the comp's not available...I also write a lot on busses (y'know, Greyhound types) or in other cars when I'm travelling...
