  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

It depends. When I'm doing pure Bible study I pray, read and take notes (even if it is only writing down what I read that day). I focus on a book at a time when I do this (plus reading a Psalm and Proverb a day).

I also "casually" (for lack of a better word) read the Bible. I've read much of the old testament the same way I'd read a history book (going for the highlights)

Then there are times when I'm reading an extra-Biblical book - I go back and forth between the book and Scripture, reading the Scriptural references as well as making sure that the writer conforms to Scripture. When I do this I tend to skip around more than reading a book beginning to end.

What were you hoping to get out of these countless accounts of how we study? Ideas? That's hard to do. For a really long time, I asked a lot of people here for ideas, and though they had many to offer, I couldn't accept any of them.

In the end, it's really what you're ready to do with God. He'll help you find a way to spend time with Him. Offer it up in prayer.

Personally, I think the whole idea of studying the Bible is on par with studying the very first textbook written in any discipline. Any full treatment of the subject must go beyond that first textbook, and some of what is in that first textbook will be off. Many people have many hours of Bible Study under their belts and have come no closer to a deeper understanding of the Creator. They know a lot about what the writers of the Bible had to say and little else.
