Most of the examples in the Bible or prayer are aloud, so I am reasoning that is the preferred way to pray. I don't think scripture condemns silent prayer either, but one should never neglect to pray aloud often. As for myself, I do both.

Yeah the Bible does seem to give alot of examples on prayer, that are out loud, but If you remember the parable of the man in the corner and the Pharisee, that God could not stand the pharisee's prayer, because of the pride issue, but God loved hearing the man in the corner's prayer, because of the humility...God doesn't care if you pray out loud, or quietly, as long as you do it humbly.

I probably should have thrown a few more choices in there on the poll, I think I made it a little restrictive on the choices but I think most people see where I'm headed.
Do you like to speak out loud or pray in silence is the main question.

hmm I pray mostly in my prayer language,"under my voice", my lips move and there are some audible words. This happens maybe fifty times a day. I pray silently about specific things maybe another four or five times a day (you know the going through of the prayer list). I pray out loud at meals and in church and on special occasians and with my kids at bedtime, if they are home from college.

I always pray silently. How else can you pray without ceasing?

I feel awkward praying out loud, especially in front of other people. What buisiness do people have in hearing what I have to say to God? Am I talking to them, or to Him? I suppose that others could agree with me if I pray out loud, but I seem to loose all connection I have with Him when I do.

It's true. You profess things and the enemy hears it. I am a FIRM believer in speaking things in faith. Also, when I pray aloud, I tend to concentrate better and not allow my mind to wander.

One of my faults is that I do not have a "systematic" prayer method as suggested by Paul. In his writings he spoke about about what to pray for and even the priorities.
I usually just lay down at night and begin to spontaneously pray whatever is on my heart. Heavy with tongues and intercession usually.
I almost never pray for "things". I cannot remember the last time I prayed for a physical object, money, or even healing.
It just never comes up.

Can't remember who wrote that, but it's good!

There are times to keep silent, secret prayer so only God hears, but don't be unduly afraid of the devil hearing - it shows him that we're with God!

Just think - when we pray for strength to follow Christ and resist the devil, he's sat there thinking "oh no! God's going to hear that and I'm in trouble!"

Answer to the OP -

I tend to like to pray audibly, even if it's under my breath, as I concentrate better that way.
I find totally silent prayer hard because my mind will wander off into daydream quite easily.
Speaking my prayers seems to pin my thoughts down much more firmly.
I spend most of my time alone, even at work, so it's not a problem.

Blessings, Susana

I pray both ways. I love praying with others.

However, there is no right or wrong way to do it. It doesn't really matter which way you pray as long as it is from your heart directly to God. As long as it is communication between you and God, you are doing what is right. Don't do it to be seen by men as the Pharisees, but don't be afraid to pray out loud if it is appropriate for the time and situation.

It depends for me on how I pray. I find that alot of times I am unable to express my prayers correctly because my mind is running away with me trying to remember everything I want to cover. So I pray alot in intercessory prayers, in tongues, I seem more focused that way, and it seems like it comes easier for me to remember things. I pray alot through the day, if something comes to my heart that needs attention, or a situation. Silent prayers also.
