On January 23 Mike Haley, a former homosexual and Manager of Gender Issues at Focus on the Family (Focus), testified before a congressional subcommittee addressing faith-based organizations. Haley, who lived as a gay activist for 12 years, now coordinates Love Won Out conferences, which present information on the causes and prevention of homosexuality and are sponsored by Focus, a non- profit Christian organization.

Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays & Gays (PFOX) was pleased that Congress heard Haley's testimony. "As the mother of a son in the homosexual lifestyle, I am pleased to see that testimony on sexual orientation from an ex-gay perspective is being presented to Congress," said Regina Griggs, PFOX Executive Director. "Our PFOX family members support the right of homosexuals to choose change. This choice must be respected by everyone.

It really is elementary: Ex-gays exist

22-year-old man stands before a classroom of middle schoolers, describing how he came out as a homosexual and going so far as to declare, "there are gay students in this classroom."

The young man is Noe Gutierrez, Jr., and the scene is one from "It's Elementary," an award-winning 1996 video (widely aired in 1999) which aims to give "practical lessons on how to talk with kids about gay people."

You won't find that scene in Gutierrez's latest video, however. Although he requested permission to use it, producer/director Debra Chasnoff turned him down. Apparently, she doesn't want schoolchildren knowing what's happened since then.

You see, Gutierrez is no longer gay.

Neither are the four others -- three women and one man -- featured in the new video "I Do Exist."

A 52-minute documentary, "I Do Exist" utilizes the stories of those five ex-gays to demonstrate that change is possible for those with same-sex attractions.

The video also includes remarks from 2 psychologists -- Dr. Warren Throckmorton of Grove City College (the video's producer) and Dr. Mark Yarhouse of Regent University -- who challenge the popular misconception that homosexuality is hardwired.

Are you familiar with the term "Yellow journalism"?

I think people make mistakes in assuming they are gay. These supposed "ex-gays", Id be willing to bet, were bisexual and turned thier focus away from men/women. You can meet a bisexual person and never even know it. Ill bet theres someone you know right now who is bisexual and you dont even know. I find it immensely hard to believe that you can be "not gay". After 15 or so years being around gays and lesbians and from about as much time talking with them, I very much doubt its possible and I would have to see some REAL proof before I would believe it, testimonials not counting.

What percentage of us gays actually have a story like this? I can tell you stories of people who tried to not be gay but just couldnt do it and left the church because of it.It works both ways.

Just like any sin that people become enslaved to, I've known people who have left the church becuase they couldnt stop drinking, or couldn't stop using drugs or couldn't stop be sexuallly promiscious....people give up to fast, they don't really believe that God can change them.

one by one their moving stories of deliverance from the homosexual lifestyle, addiction to pornography, rape, abuse and violence are told.

There are no dry eyes as 700 orthodox Canadian Anglicans listen, attentatively, to these stories of God's marvelous, redemptive work in individual lives.

There is the story of Dawn McDonald, now an Anglican priest. "Being an ex gay is even more difficult than being gay. To many in the Anglican Church, my story is “politically incorrect”, and there is opposition from every corner. Many are quick to disqualify my story: many have told me that I was never homosexual, or that I am still homosexual and living in denial. I know where I have been, and I know what the Lord has done in my life, and I do not need you to believe me. Take it or leave it, this is a story of the Gospel and how it transformed my life."
