How do you know when a child is ready to come out of diapers at night?

I'm sure ds isn't anywhere near but I wondered if there is anything I should be looking out for.
He's 3 1/2 and is pretty much 100% there during the day. He has a sleep during the day as well as sleeping at night.

I started letting Emily wear here panties to bed when her pull ups were dry in the mornings more often than wet. She had a couple of accidents at first, but I cut out drinks about an hour or two before bed time and always make her potty before she gets tucked in at night and it's not been a problem.
