• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

how do you know that your suffering from depression? i've been sad alot, and i'm never happy, and i cry  alot and i just wanted to know what's wrong with me??:sigh: :help:

Hi, They say that when you're feeling sad and depressed for two, or more weeks, that it could be depression.
The best thing, i guess, is to do a google search for depression, and see what you find. Make sure the site
you use is a reputable one. If you're not comfortable with a web site, i would definitely talk to someone that can give you a proper diagnosis. I would also ask, is there anything in your life right now, that might be causeing you to have feelings of this type, that might be the problem? There are other symptoms also, that's why i said to be sure you get reputable information.
I'll be praying for you, Amin.

When I first hit rock bottom I found it so hard to cope with. I used a lot of music influences to help with it. I started listening to Heavy Metal and I thats when I learned what Rock was about. Heavy Metal isnt all about having a good time. There is also deep feelings. A lot of 80s Metal bands have helped me through my depression. Heavy Metal these days has no meaning to it. All the guys do is growl when they sing and talk about the devil. One night I finally said to myself I am converting to Christianity now and forever. I prayed that night to God to help me and I cried while doing it. The next couple of days I felt alive for the first time in my life and nothing but goodness was happening. I accepted God and prayed. Alas, it didnt last. There were still bad times but I got through them. I have now learned to accept God fuly and not just for personal gain and help. Its a rough road I admit but I know you will get through this. My prayers go out to you.

What made me realise my depression was one day I wrote a poem and drawed a picture expressing my feelings and emotions, it soon accured to me that there was something wrong, I have been in the blues for years and never seeked help, so I went to my school councellor and showed the poem and picture, she then saw I was in desperate need of help, and referred me to a professional councellor out of school.

So maybe seeing a counsellor may help, or look through the symptoms of depression, the basic symptoms are,

-Constantly sad, blue down with the dumps
- Lost interest in activities you used to find pleasurable
-Over eating or lack of appetite
- oversleeping or early waking?
- less active and talkative than usual
-avoiding other people
- no longer get a lift from praise, gifts etc.
- lost interest in sex
- low self esteem or highly critical of oneself
- less efficient at school, work or home
- less able to cope with everyday routines
-difficulties in kaing even trivial decisions
-trouble concentrating
- entertaining morbid thoughts

If you are experiencing four or more of these problems on a regular basis, you may have a problem with depression which will require Attention

There are also online councellors here http://www.newhopenow.org/

Hope that helps,

Everyone here has about said everything there is. And to me it sounds like depression. I do not know if you have been suffering for just a week or for years. But I do know that for your age, hormones are going nuts and you are changing. And you will be moody and crying and that is normal. But you could have a deeper depression than that. I did, but didn't know I was suffering from something that was common and felt like I was a freak. Either way, if it is hormones or real clinical depression, you need to talk to someone about it. Suffering alone will make it worse. G-d can't help you if you refuse to get help. (free will, remember). Let us know how you are doing and if you have any other questions.
