Are you first...

A Christian and then a Seventh Day Adventist?

Or

A Seventh Day Adventist then a Christian ?

A couple of years ago, I said during sabbath school at my local sda church, that I dont tell people I am an SDA but rather a christian... had a talk with the church elder after that (not that it had any impact on me)...

When asked what "religion" I am I respond, "Christian." Usually that is not what they want. I then respond something like: "The brand is SDA."

"Christian" always comes first.

In fact, I am often concerned with the aura around baptism and preparation for it: Are people becoming SDAs or Christians? It often feels like when they become SDA they become Christian. Mmmm, maybe. I go for the "Christian" aspect first. It may be God might have a mission for them some place else for a while. Let Him plant them in the field of His choice. He can set a plant and reap a garden. Don't let me muck that up.

Depending upon who's asking and why, I am a Christian, a Protestant, or an SDA. I'm not evasive about telling non-Adventists that I am one though. Personally, I dislike the question though--too political.

I tell people outright that I am a Seventh-Day Adventist Christian. Because in essense that is what people are asking; "what church do you belong to?" I rarely get people who ask what religion I am. If we are talking enough for them to ask those type of questions they can already identify me as a Christian.
