This has worked for me many times and I hope it will work for you Robert. Hold an ice cube in your hand on the opposite side of the side of where your tooth is on. Also, gargle with strong salt water, both help a lot. If it's throbbing I'd call the dentist even on the weekend, you may need it drained if it's abcessed, this would relieve your pain too. Wishing you well.

advil is the best pain reliever as it reduces swelling which is most likely the cause of pain....also rinse with warm salt water.
If the pain is from an obvious cavity or hole in the tooth, you can buy a quick fix packet from the drug store that contains clove oil and little cotton pellets to fill the cavity and keep food from irritating it until you get to the dentist.

Note: Clove oil is NASTY :| !!! but it will numb the pain for a while.

I feel your pain! I had a root canal last year and man that hurt! Of course, it had to happen on the weekend. I just took Tylenol. As soon as the even set the freezing in, there was immediate relief. They drained it and that was even better! I've had 2 teeth that have had root canal treatment. The good thing about that is, later if that tooth needs work, there's no need for freezing! LOL.

Hi, I hate to say this but if I had all my teeth fixed with root canal it would cost me about $25,000 because all my teeth have 20 year old fillings that are now going bad. I've been to 3 dentists and all say I need root canals. I'm trying to find a dentist that will put new fillings back in instead of costly root canals and crowns which are around 1200.00 each. I have already had some teeth removed because of very bad teeth.

Thanks, Robert.

Orajel works well. I've had occassion to have to slather a tooth with it. :( OTC pain relievers, soaking my hands in hot water can relieve the throbbing a bit. Salt water helps and if you can bear the pain, rinsing with Listerine helps to keep the bacteria and germs out of the cavity.
I feel for you. I had to have five of mine repaired last year. I got a dry socket with one of them and wanted to rip my head off for a day or two. I'll keep you in my prayers and I hope you fell better soon.
