In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I recently tried to terminate my account with the telephone company after 40 years of horrible service.
In essence they have refused and have assigned an advocacy. After several hours trying to reach a human to end the service I get this. I have no trust in the company and the advocacy assigned by them have asked for very personal information from me breaching my security. This is truly unbelievable to me that this simple Action would be denied. If it was any other company. Why should I be surprised coming from them. I thought of contacting the attorney general and the corp commission. This has really thrown me. I have never heard of this happening to anyone else. Any thoughts or suggestions? Prayers? I am so upset about this.

Are you under some kind of contract for a period of time?
I doubt it. It was 40 years ago with another company. This company took over the company that I originally had service with. I don't even remember the previous companies name. If I did I doubt it would be for 40 years.

Ouch. Kaiju maybe? Odds are you aren't the only one with complaints. Do some google searching on the company see if you can cannot with other people having the same experience who have gotten out from under it or are thinking about how to.

Maybe they want to verify you are the owner of the account, before they cancel service. They probably already have the identity info and asked you so they might verify it. You may not want to give too much info as someone might steal it. I had to go in person to the water company to set up an account. I saw I was dealing with the water company representative.

Stop paying the bill, your account will be closed soon enough.
I thought of that but I didn't want anything to mess with my credit. Besides I was furious that they could demand a future payment or I would lose my service. I have a near perfect record with them despite their shenanigans.

It wouldn't surprise me if they didn't know my identity after 40 years. They didn't question my identity only harassed me for wanting to leave them.

The good news is the corporation commission has contacted me but not the attorney general. I wanted them to demand the company close my account to stop the games they play. I believe many people let treatment like this slide.
I have just had it with them. It takes hour on the phone just to get a hold of a live body. The frustration level is extremely high by then.
