huh??? I've never heard of such a thing. A church single's social would consist of 2 men and 2 women, and I would be one of the men and the two women would both be over 40.

They are being purposefully and perhaps criminally raised by the oil companies at least in part. OPEC might also have something to do with it. I've listened to the gas companies explaining their record profits and how they arn't gouging us and its all just pseudo intellectual drivel trying to convince you that because they can use a bunch of big words that most people don't understand it means that your gut reaction that you are being gouged is wrong. Guess what, you are being gouged.
