  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How do we know . . . .

Ok, Montalban. The point I am trying to make is that you said that it was against orthodoxy to say that anyone is condemned for not partaking in the communion as per orthodox beliefs but then you said that you couldn't say that. See the discrepancy? One you wrote it and posted it, you said it. Get it?

The way of putting it should be that "We take on Christ" in order to be saved, but God might do what God might do and still save you for whatever reason known only to God, and not to be second-guessed by us.

So God didn't just leave us guessing, he gave us a way of being 'saved'. But he's a God of endless love. We know we can be saved by following 'the way'

I suppose the best way of saying it is "We can say we're right. But we can't say you're wrong"

My first question was if there are others.
the Gospel of the Nativity of Mary, the Gospel of Pseudo-Matthew are mentioned in the Catholic Encyclopedia
My second question was if there are any canonized (yes, biblical) sources. Sorry that I didn't make my questions clear.

Then you're asking me what other biblical sources mention Mary's mother?

There aren't any.

That was the reason I raised it as per a challenge which was put to me about non-biblical sources saying things.

It's really hard to follow your line of reasoning.

God bless you all.
Taking a break from
this thread after
reading the last
four pages of our
folly.

You do so without still showing how something can be infallible only after it's written down! Which is, as I pointed out, something you've never addressed!

And you believe I'm rude!!!

You are second guessing God aren't you? A believer is justified righteous by God for one easy payment (actually is a free gift) of accepting Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Then God begins the process of Sanctification. So you see, God told us about it. It is in scripture.

Wrong, I have never "said" that.
No. You said only the written word was infallible.
In post #514 of this thread!

Me:Yes, you are the one who said that only the word was infallible.
You: Amen, and that's true right?

Not something or just any writing. Scripture is infallible. Paul told us so.

I'm not second-guessing God.

God's told us

"Follow me" we try to
and
"Don't judge others" and we try not to do this

You might. Many Protestants don't.

Even some who 'partake' think it's just bread.

We in Orthodoxy think it's 'essential' to take Christ upon us.

Also, I thought I was being asked just about 'traditions' per se.

But the dangerous part for Orthodox in answering this is we don't judge people as condemned so if I were to say "It's 'essential' to salvation to partake in Christ. You don't partake of Jesus' divine nature, you are therefore condemned" it would be un-Orthodox for me to do so.

So, as my esteemed co-religionist here says

Forgive me
I had to make a coffee run.

I think it is essential to salvation to partake in Christ, but I don't think it is essential to salvation to perform &/or partake in a ceremonial sacrament.
I think it possible to partake of His sacredness without sacrament, but that doesn't dismiss or demean sacrament, nor is it meant to. I took part in it myself in both Roman Catholic & Protestant form, and I don't resent or regret it.

no, I'm "championing" not being a jerk about things. She said she was going to take a break, leave her alone. It's a fairly simple concept.
I got a pm calling me back.
Will check this out.
Then I will go back
and prove all of the
twisted words.

(that was a joke btw)

Has there ever been a thread that hasn't gone in circles. ^_^

Matthew 21:13 And He is saying unto them, "It has been written, 'the House of Me a House of prayer shall be being called'; ye yet it are making a den/cave of robbers".

Ezekiel 39:12 "For seven months the house of Israel will be burying them, in order to cleanse the land.
13 "Indeed all the people of the land will be burying, and they will gain renown for it on the day that I am glorified," says the Lord GOD.
