He was an experienced theologian, with good knowledge of the bible, and the languages in which it was originally written (Hebrew and Greek). Sorry, you seem to have misunderstood what I wrote. If I wasn't clear, I apologise. You asked how John Gill knew what the Job verse meant. My reply was simply to point to his credentials as biblically knowledgeable. I most certainly was not suggesting that he penned the original version of the bible, and I am sure he himself would not have claimed to have done so.

Thousands of people lying would be too inadequate. It would have to be a conspiracy similar to you living in a simulation. Your own eyes, physical experiments, telescopes, physical laws, even logic/rationality as such - everything would need to be rigged and giving you false inputs, to test your faith or something.

Flat earth is the traditional understanding, before people discovered that it was round.
