This one is targeted at those who think there is no meaningful distinction between sex, gender identity, and gender expression (á la this convenient graphic).
What characteristic determines whether someone is a man or a woman?

The are no people in that category. But it is wrong to impress ones
preconceived notions upon others based on our beliefs of how certain
genders should act. If men and women had predefined roles for us to
force them into, then sexually ambiguous children would not exist.
Children with MGD aren’t born as “boys” or “girls.” All gender
differentiation rules must be "soft" rules or guidelines only.

X chromosome and Y chromosome.

What about the women who were born women, spent their whole lives as women, but nonetheless have a Y chromosome?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Androgen_insensitivity_syndrome

Specifically women with Complete Androgen Insensitivity Syndrome. Their genetics says "male", but you could never tell by looking at them. In fact, many don't find out until they go for fertility treatments. Are they not women?

I only have questions for answers:

1. Will the last person to leave sane human civilization please bring the flag?

2. Doesn't this belong in the science forum?

3. What characteristic determines whether someone is a human or a dog?

Nature is the one that defines who is a man or woman. Not pretentious activists, pseudo-science, or emotional manipulating sob story propaganda.

Great, then what about "nature" defines it?

3. What characteristic determines whether someone is a human or a dog?

Genomic mapping.

I wonder if genes describe psychology as well.
It's the age of "anything goes". Can't tell the genes from the memes and the schemes and the dreams. Seems to be a theme. I could just scream.

But what if someone self-identifies as a dog?

Well shoot, if this were a real mental health condition, if it had any physiological basis, if there was anyone who actually did this, we might have to have a reasoned and well-thought-out conversation about it! But, you know, it's not actually a thing, so...

That was easy. Close thread.
Okay, so genetics does it? What about those suffering from androgen insensitivity syndrome, people with a Y chromosome who look like women, typically identify as women, live their entire lives as women, and often don't learn that they are "really" men until they try to figure out why they're having trouble conceiving?

I saw a guy on Tosh.0 who thought he was a dog.

That's what you said.

The question answers itself, despite your putting quotation marks around the word "really".

"...and often don't learn that they are really men..."

So despite being phenotypically women in pretty much every way, identifying as women, and for all intents and purposes being women, the fact that they have a Y chromosome means they're men?
