  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I'm sure if you google for this you will find lots of good answers. Try google groups.

One idea is as follows. Connect a standard RCA cable to the output of the tape deck. Connect this to an RCA-to-stereo-miniplug adapter. Connect the adaptor to the (microphone?) input on your soundcard.

The adapter is about $6 at Radio Shack.

I run this kind of wiring in the opposite direction to listen to my computer through my stereo. The principle is the same for recording.

How do I take a audio tape and get the sound onto my cpu? Then how do I get it into a downloadable file to put on my site? I need about 1 hr of it on my site for download.

Hmmmmm. If you have a recorder hooked up to your comp, you can record it onto your hard drive, and then from there convert it to MP3 or WAV. I've never heard of an hour long MP3 though.. so i'm not sure if that's the format you'd want. lol. I don't have a recorder so I'm not that experianced in that area. :)

An hour long MP3 is going to be around 100-150mb of space........even at a low bitrate it won't be much lower than 90mb.......Do you even have that much space on your site and enough bandwith to download a file of that size?

Look, at 128 kbps(average bitrate), it wont even reach 60 mb. Do some maths by doing this:
bitrate(kbps) times number of seconds, then divide by 8(8 bits make 1 byte) and then divide this number by 1024 to get the size in mb.

Even with that, there is no need for 128kbps on stereo. As far a i know, tapes are not stereo. Therefore, you should be able to keep a fairly decent quality at 64 kbps with mono sound.

To record the tape, you not only need the cable, but also sound recording software. And, if the software doesnt include support for MP3, you also need a MP3 encoder.

Ok, Doofus obviously isn't awake, I just used 100 minutes in a hour when I figured out the numbers I did :) My bad :sigh:

Well I don't know if I need it in mp3 or wav. But whatever is less will be what I use. I want to tape a church service and put it on my site. I have 100mb on my site. Don't remember the bandwidth. But I just need to know how to get my tape recorder pluged into my cpu.

Try this....

http://www.pccables.com/cgi-bin/orders6.cgi?action=Showitem&id=ID1127260&partno=05013&search=SOUND&rsite=pccables.com&rcode=

Just plug one end into the headphone jack on the player and the other into the mic jack on the computer, make sure you adjust the volumes on both the tape player and the microphone setting on the computer.......
