Just look at the only two times we ask Mary to pray for us in an Ave Maria, now and at the hour of our death, the only two points in our lives we can be certain of.

Great insight, Neal. So true. There is a good reason God gave us the night. It is the time we lay down our cross, and rest. We carry our cross through out the day, with God's help. But when the evening comes, we lay down our cross and rest. In the morning, we start fresh. We pick up our cross and go again. One day at a time. With the help of God, with the help of those whom God has given us.

Try giving up other things-- like chocolate, internet; something you enjoy-- to train yourself to resist worldly pleasures.
And pray the Rosary every day!
You will be in my prayers. God bless you!

I should definitely try praying the rosary daily. Unfortunately, it makes me bored. :(

:preach: he rosary is anything but boring. Learn it very well!! Meditate on JESUS life. It was an exciting life and the mysteries of the rosary are exciting. :prayer: Prayer is not easy. It takes work but if it is worked at and done correctly it is certainly not boring!!

Sister, stay strong! I'm dealing with a particular sin myself and I'm making myself go for a month without doing this one sin. The temptation is there but whenever I feel like I'm failing, I turn to prayer. Just turn your mind to Jesus and pray your hardest... or do something else to keep your mind off the sin.

You're in my prayers Sister. May the Lord bless you and keep you safe away from this sin.

Holly,

Do you say the rosary by just repeating the prayers over and over? Don't get me wrong...that's better than nothing, but I highly suggest getting a little pamphlet with the joyous, sorrowful and glorious mysteries in it. I got mine a long time ago for under $2 at a Carmelite gift shop. It tells the story of Jesus life and then after each story you say the our father, ten hail mary's and the glory be. You get to look at pictures while you're saying the prayers so that your mind doesn't drift away. (trust me.....I'm a drifter normally!!!!!!)

I would really recommend getting one of these booklets and then on special times even just doing the stations of the cross while saying the rosary as well. I think you'll grow to love it as much as I and others do once you start meditating on the mysteries while saying it.

peace,

bridget

Yeah, I just repeat the prayers but I also try to meditate on the mysteries as well. Can I read the verses while repeating the rosary?

Well that would take talent.;) I'm not that great at multitasking so I first read the passage for each story (i just know there is a better word for this and I'm hoping someone will rescue it for me) and afterwards there is usually a special verse to think about while saying the prayers.

For example, I'm currently doing a novena and I'm on the sorrowful mysteries today. The first sorrowful mystery is about the Agony in the Garden. It quites Mark 14:32 and then there is a paragraph explaining the meditation. The passage at the end of this says:

"Help us face, O Lord, the darkness where we are tempted and weak and steady us when we are afraid. By the mystery of your prayer and agony in the garden, have mercy on us!"

After reading all that I say one our father, ten hail mary's and one glory be, all the while looking at the picture of Jesus kneeling down in the garden and thinking about that last quote that I just wrote out.

Well I meant read a verse before reciting that particular decade. See, I have ADHD and so it's really hard to concentrate on the mysteries while reciting the rosary.

Oh yes, definitely read it before reciting the decade. That is what they want you to do. I had a hard time when I started doing it too but practice makes perfect.;) It's really helped me out a lot and now I can't get to sleep if I haven't said the rosary yet. My problem is falling asleep with the book in my face in the middle of a mystery.............guess it relaxes me that much!

To build on what Caroline was saying, when I say the Rosary, I have one scripture-based sentence for each bead... for example, today is Tuesday, and on Tuesday we say the Sorrowful Mysteries, so I'd say something like this with each bead:

(First Sorrowful Mystery: the Agony in the Garden)

First bead (out loud): Jesus comes to Gethsemane to pray with His disciples. "Stay here, while I go yonder and pray". Hail Mary, full of grace...
Second bead (out loud): Entering the garden with Peter, James, and John, Jesus prays, "My soul is sorrowful unto death." Hail Mary, full of grace...
Third bead (out loud): Jesus sees the sins of all mankind, whose guilt He has taken upon Himself. Hail Mary, full of grace...
Fourth bead (out loud):He sees the wrath of the Father which His sufferings must appease. Hail Mary, full of grace...
Fifth bead (out loud):So great is his anguish that His sweat becomes as drops of blood falling to the ground. Hail Mary, full of grace...
Sixth bead (out loud):An angel appears to Him from heaven to strengthen Him. Hail Mary, full of grace...
Seventh bead (out loud):"Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from Me; yet, not My will, but Yours be done." Hail Mary, full of grace...
Eighth bead (out loud):Finding the disciples asleep, He says, "Could you not watch one hour with me?" Hail Mary, full of grace...
Ninth bead (out loud):Jesus is betrayed by Judas, cruelly bound and led away. Hail Mary, full of grace...
Tenth bead (out loud):Father, by the merits of the agony of Jesus in the Garden, have mercy on us and on the whole world. Hail Mary, full of grace...

That's just an example, which I pulled from http://www.rosary-center.org/howto.htm. By going through the mystery sentence by sentence, it enables me to concentrate on meditation, and as I pray the Hail Mary, I visualise the scene and contemplate its significance.

Maybe that would help you. I know it certainly helps me to focus!

www.virtualrosary.org has a great rosary program you can download that displays a scriptural verse for each Hail Mary. It's a great way to stay focused.

To address the OP, I struggle with a lot of different sins and the thing that helps me most is frequent confession. A lot of times I'll force myself to get up early to go before daily Mass to a very good priest who hears confessions a half an hour before Mass begins. Adoration is great too. I also think it's important to talk to other people about the faith and get encouragement.

Here's a brief bible study on temptation that may be useful as well: http://www.lifeteen.org/default.aspx?PageID=BSTE

How do I receive forgiveness of mortal sins before confirmation? From what I understand, I can go to confession now that I am baptised but I cannot receive absolution until after confirmation. So what do I do to receive forgiveness?

Well, I can't receive absolution until after confirmation right?

Me. I was under the impression that I cannot receive absolution until after confirmation. Are you saying that I can go through confession and receive absolution and everything right now?

Well, I recall being absolved of my sins during confession before confirmation. I'm not sure where you got the idea otherwise.
