Well all i can say is your Biblical approach has lead you to not know whether you have believed or not. Maybe you have not or have, but that is not my case.
I know i have believed in Jesus and have received God's free gift of Eternal Life salvation and have become a permanent born again child of God. No matter how the rest of my life turns out i am a permanent born again child of God. Why because God said so.
Carl definitely believes in the Lord.
The post I believe is to get the readers to examine themselves.

Who said that ? quote me please.

Who said that ??? Save time and just admit you misread me.

60 years ago in my teenage years as a struggling Christian I had that issue but no more - but not for the reasons you propose.

I know Jesus is alive in me and communicates His will specifically.

That would be a correct post if his intention was like Paul to see if the believer is in the faith. But his mistake is to examine yourself to see if you have believed in Jesus. As no action can prove belief except simply believing.

Do you believe George Washington was a President, if so what action or self examination do you need to do, to know you believe this.

That's not why we're to examine ourselves..
You see "Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble."
When I fell away I believed in God..
But I had also fallen away.

How many times is this verse going to be misused. To become a born again child of God was never offered to demons. So they believe and tremble because they know their time is limited. Not because their belief is not followed by actions showing they are true believers.

I never said what you suggested...clearly a lack of communication...
you can believe in God and still not be saved, have 'works' and not be saved..
Its all a matter of our heart..
I personally believe that if the Lord has purposed someone for himself then he or she will absolutely finish the race...it just gets more difficult..when our flesh gets in the way...just my opinion

That statement does not represent my position.

I can only conclude you are having difficulty understanding me.

Believing in God is never stated as, what to believe to receive God's free gift of Eternal Life salvation.

The object of belief a person must have is in the person Jesus. A person if they want Eternal Life salvation must believe Jesus is The son of God/The Messiah, the resurrection and the life. This is stated in The Gospel of John many times.

And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
“He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”

“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.

You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life.

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?”
She said to Him, “Yes, Lord, I believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God, who is to come into the world.”

And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.

Your original post is a fairly basic belief among people who identify with Christianity

What fruit are you producing or how are you living your life. So your fruit and actions show you really are a true believer.

Then you go on to ask what scriptures backs up, what i (carl) believe about showing evidence in a persons life. That they are a true believer.

But there are no scriptures that state a true believer will live and act certain ways and will produce fruit, etc..
The parable of the soils even shows this as this parable shows there are three types of believers 2nd sol, 3rd soil and 4th soil and only one of those soils produced fruit their entire life.

Are you asking me for a testimony ???

Will you then dissect and dismiss what God is doing in my life because I don't align with your man made theology.

What sort of Christmas present is that ?

This is a sad day.

Why should I lay bare my spiritual journey with Jesus to an unknown on cyberspace intent on 'Taking every though captive to the obedience of his own mind!

Actually my testimony is well known and you can read it.

I have raised Scriptural reason to believe in being saved and the guns come out... where is that coming from ????

Someone doesn't want believers to know they are saved because they become more confident in Jesus.

I suppose if I say I am well embedded in church and have a recognised ministry, this will count for naught as well.

Believers used to kill each other when there was no agreement - I had hoped we were past that.

Merry Christmas.

Assurance of salvation is a very important topic as it builds a strong church.

I have invited others to join in and bring Scriptural reasons for being confident about being saved.

Please do this - there are many.

Sadly there are those who maintain one can't know for sure about personal salvation and indeed preach a Gospel of doubt.

The evidence of His indwelling presence in your life is tangible or we would not be instructed to look for confirmation of this in our inner life.

There are many theologies but One Scripture - love it and mine it for gems.

This will transform your life.

No i do not ask for testimonies. If a person tells me they have believed in Jesus for God's free gift of Eternal Life salvation. I take them at their word, i need no more proof. If a person, for some reason, is not being truthful with me, that is between them and Jesus.

But looks like you do, require more proof.

God offers more proof.

Let a man examine himself is a directive.

2 Corinthians 13:5
Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?

The Bible tells us we will know He is at work within us if we have genuine faith.

OK I will help you out

Here is a reference from 1 John 3.

18 My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.

19 And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him.

20 For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things.

And this one...

1 John 2
the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

28 And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.

It stands to reason that if receive His anointing, then His Spirit communicates with you.

I you don't experience this - make it a top priority - seek it out - His indwelling presence and living Word within you is critical.

You really have a lack of confidence in, God's promise. That all who believe in Jesus have received God's free of Eternal Life salvation and has become a permanent born again child of God.

If i want assurance that i am a born again child of God, I look to God's promise.
Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me has everlasting life.

If i want to know if i am in the faith and living a life as believer. I will look at myself and how i am living my life.

Wrong sorry - you totally misjudge my relationship with My Father.

Looking at your own works does not bring the confidence I speak of.

Philippians 1:6
Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

Seeing Him work in, through and with you is the key.

1 John 5:11 - And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 12 He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. 13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, andt hat you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.
