  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How do I do this?

Hi, well I made my own site, and I'm trying to get it "known", a lot of people have told me to put my site into as many search engines as I can, but how do I do that? I can find things on the search engine sites, but I can't find how to get my site into them. so I would just like some hints or SOMETHING to help me out here! lol :)

Thanks for anything you could say that would help me! :)

In Christ,
Hannah

If you have control of a Control Panel for the hosting provider then they should have given you a password and username, and then control of the Control Panel and it should have something on there that allows you to give your site out to the search engines...

ok, thanks! :)

I would like to ask someone to look at my site, and HONESTLY tell me what you think, it is a forums site. I want to know what I should do, or you know should take off, or add. If you would do this for me, then PM me for the Link.

Thanks!

Hannah

What is your site? Give the link and I will check it out. Word of mouth is another good way to spread it. I know that its not as good as a search engine. But sometimes I recomend one via email. And of course others pass it on. Its like a cold a lot of people get.

Meta tags. If you don't put the tags in, the search engions wont know what it's about and you will be at the bottom of the list. I don't know how to do it off hand in html but I've seen it before and its pretty easy. If you ar using something like PHPNuke then there is a .php file you just drop all that info into. You can also tell the search engions not to tuch any other sub pages you have so only your index.php page is the only one listed.

Meta tags are over rated. You should do some internet research on submitting to search engines. Some engines, like google, pretty much ignore meta tags. Those things have apparently been abused. Only a few search engines use them. I submitted my site and it didn't show up on google for about 45 days. But it only shows up if you type in the name of the site. It doesn't show up under search engines for what the site is about. And I have meta tags galore.

The best way to get your site to show up is to get a high ranking site to link to it. That is how google works anyway. It "autosurfs" the web via the links on the various pages. If there are high ranking or lots of links TO your site from other sites, it will get ranked high as well.

Google and yahoo don't need you to sign up. You just need to be found by them crawling another site in their directory with a link to you site on it. If there are no links to your site out there then it is going to be very hard to get placed anyway.

Yeah they use spiders. Metas just tell the spiders what the site is about. Google just grabs your entire site and stores it all in their data center. It's good to have meta tags but I think most of the top position sites are just the most active in the first place. Just to get bit by a spider you only need to have a web link on an existing website so the spiders can find and follow the link to your site. Once there, thay either grab your metas or assimilate your site into their lair muuaaahhhahahaha metas and all.

Any specific ideas or tips in this realtion? It looks like submitting to web directories doesn't increase your site rank mutch.

Just a thought, if you find high-ranking sites with forums all you would need to do is have one link in the forums to your site. If you put a link from CF in the links forum here, that would cover this site, which ranks high. Hehe but if you go around to forums just posting only your link they may just get deleted. I’m not sure if having links at high-ranking sites works though, but I wouldn’t rule it out.

A little hint for making your meta tags more useful.

If you put a keywords meta tag in the HEADER section, but the BODY does not contain those words, search engines will know.

way to get your keywords into the BODY without changing the visable text is to add comment html tags in the BODY. Like this:

Code:
<!-- put keywords and phrases in here, keyword1, keyword2, etc -->

That can help your search engine rating.

I hope that helps.

God bless.

I doubt this is going to work. I think that the reputable search engines can't be cheated so easily.
