  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How did you get interested in anime?

My first exposure to anime was probably Voltron: Defender of the Universe in the 80s. Of course, Voltron is actually the Americanized conglomeration of two anime series, Armored Fleet Dairugger XV and Beast King GoLion.

However, my most memorable early exposure to anime was Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind. I remember it as something that was distinctly different from the other things I had seen as a kid, from the strange worm creatures with eyes that glowed blue or red to the grown-up themes of war and devastation that I didn't quite understand yet. I'm glad that I finally re-discovered what it was and eventually got a copy of it from a friend to watch whenever I please. This film is what really first got me interested in anime as a distinct genre and Japanese phenomenon.

What's funny is that I don't really like Miyazaki that much otherwise, except for maybe Princess Mononoke. I do, however, like his perspectives on human intention and the brutal unpredictability of the ramifications of our decisions and actions.

My brother introduced me to 'Yu-gi-oh' when I was like 6 years old, then we discovered 'Naruto' on Cartoon network, and later when I was about 9 or 10 I was introduced to 'InuYasha', and I also discovered 'Trinity Blood' on Adult swim .
Also, Cartoon Network aired Spirited away for the first time, and was then got addicted to all studio ghibli films.
Later when I moved, I discovered Manga, and more and more Anime such as 'Tokyo Mew Mew', 'Death Note', 'Bleach', 'Black Butler', 'Skip Beat', 'Uta no Prince-sama'.. Etc...

I've read more than 1,200+ mangas since September 25, 2010-- including the latest chapter releases for Naruto, Bleach, 1/2 Prince, Beelzebub, Psyren, The world God only knows, The Breaker, The Breaker: New waves, The one, Oresama Teacher..... And a lot more...

i used to watch it when i was little growing up, things like pokemon, sailor moon and card captors. i didnt know it was "anime".
one night when i fell asleep with cartoon network on, i woke up and on adult swim there was this cool looking show. i wrote down the name and looked it up the next morning. It was called Trinity Blood and since 2007, it has been my favorite anime and its what got me back into it and were i am with it now~

Wow this is great. I grew up watching Anime before I even knew it had a name. I always enjoyed the art style and music more than other types of animation. So I can't say I was ever introduced to it. I just grew up watching it. The first I recall was Uncio. There were others but I can't remember them well. Of course when Manga hit the scene in the local bookstores about 12 years ago I ended up reading them as well. I never thought I would find a Christian community that enjoys it as well!

My name is Diane and I'm new to this subforum  , but obviously not to the site :p

I'm curious on how you got into anime and manga, and who introduced you to it. I have a brother that loves anime, and has been in it since high school. He gave me Princess Mononoki for a Christmas present years ago. I'm not much of a fan . . . . yet. I recently watched Ponyo and I really enjoyed that film. I definately would like to see Spirited Away soon.

I haven't been on this forum for soooo lonnngggg....

It was PM that got me into anime, too, but only because of a cartoon I had seen as a kid, The Golden Antelope. PM had that same beautiful design, AND the red elk reminded me of The Golden Anteope.

I believe Miyazaki was influenced by Antelope.

My favorite anime are Yuu Yuu Hakusho, Prince of Tennis, Sailor Moon, Fullmetal Alchemist, Inu Yasha, and Hikau no Go, and I always watch the subtitled version.
