  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How did you get interested in anime?

I've always been a Pokemon fan, and then I watched Ponyo at my friend's (not much - I had to go quite soon) and learned the name "Studio Ghibli" from her, but didn't know a lot about that. I watched the whole of Ponyo another time and loved it. Then one day I was skipping through channels on the TV and saw a film "Whisper of the Heart", which was nearly finished, but I saw the end bit and saw that the channel was having a Studio Ghibli season (luckily they had just started), so I saw most of the films that month and loved them. Then I began to try more anime (started with Ouran High School Host Club) and loved it, although I haven't seen a lot yet, I'd like to try more :)

My sister and I watched Pokemon and Dragon Ball/Dragon Ball Z before we knew what anime was... When was in fifth grade or so she started getting really into anime and made me watch Naruto. And now I love it to :) It's so great because there are so many genres to watch.

I did watch anime as child in hindsight (Candy Candy, Little Women, Katri Girl of the Meadows, The Yearling, The Swiss family Robinson, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, Little Lord Fauntleroy, Peter Pan, etc.), but pretty much every single one of the stories originated from the west and was produced by Japan.

Later on I did watch more clear cut anime like Tekkaman Blade, Dragonball Z, etc. But I didn't get interested until I started reading manga. Well, the translations. I only read the translation scripts of the stories. Until I found out about scans. And from there, I became interested in anime. I think the first anime I seriously watched was D.N. Angel.

I sort of grew up around Japanese video games so it likely stemmed from that. When I was younger, I liked Megaman, Pokémon, and Digimon. But when Toonami came out, I started really loving it. Plus, I had a few Asian friends who also really liked anime so they introduced me to others.

My interest in anime started from playing Quake 2. While I was browsing the Polycount site, the old gathering of models and skins for the game, I saw Sailor Moon skins, and they tugged at my heart. Eventually I gave into my curiosity and that brings me to where I am today. It's very beautiful and uplifting. So many beautiful things have come to my life from anime related things.

I'm 22 so yeah it was the 90s when I became interested. I was pretty young. I'd say around 4 maybe? What got me into it was Dragon Ball Z, Ronin Warriors, and Sailor Moon. Those were my starters. I became a fan of Pokemon when I saw the english debut of the 1st episode. That's right, I saw the very 1st episode when it wasn't a rerun and I'm proud of it. :) Later I got into Digimon and
Yu-Gi-Oh. Megaman NT Warrior was later as was Beyblade. These are also considered anime. I like some others as well such as Tsubasa but these are the main ones I have gotten into.

As a little girl.

Sailor Moon and Gundam Wing, man.

I wanted to be a Sailor Scout Gundam Pilot.

Well, technically, it was Pokemon but Sailor Moon and Gundam Wing are what really drew me in and hooked me on it.

I got interested when my friend started watching more anime himself. Him and I, watched Clannad together and after Clannad, I began watching more anime other than Naruto. Ever since then, I have been watching a variety of anime.

I was really young when I was first introduced to anime. I believe it was Transformers first, then DBZ and finally Sailor Moon aka: Ai No Senshi is what really pulled me in. I started drawing sailor moon at age 11 and quickly got noticed in school for commission.

My favorite anime are:

  • Sailor Moon (Ai No Senshi)
  • Fushigi Yuugi (Mysterious Plays)
  • Escaflowne
  • Card Captor
  • Tsubasa
  • Vampire Knight
  • Guilty

Current Anime I'm watching:

  • Sword Art Online Season 2
  • Sailor Moon Crystal

My name is Diane and I'm new to this subforum  , but obviously not to the site :p

I'm curious on how you got into anime and manga, and who introduced you to it. I have a brother that loves anime, and has been in it since high school. He gave me Princess Mononoki for a Christmas present years ago. I'm not much of a fan . . . . yet. I recently watched Ponyo and I really enjoyed that film. I definately would like to see Spirited Away soon.

My little sister got first into anime about a decade ago ago when she discovered the personal computer (that was when she decided she wanted to design websites for a living). She got a series called His and Her Circumstances and she read all of it. I began to wonder what the hype was all about and when I read my first anime book I had such fun with it that I was hooked. Ever since then I have been reading Pokemon and Yugioh.
