  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

To prepare for the life in the eternity does one need to be a Christian or will any religion get you there?

Yes. But you omitted the meaning of "to prepare". it means to become good or better.

What to scare about? Nonsense.

People care because they want to search the real meaning of life. And you are simply close your eyes to it. As an intelligent being, you should be shamed.
And I will bet this "meaning of life," which some do look for, almost always embraces the validation of an afterlife: the great beyond for which we are suppose to spend our time on Earth preparing for. It's all part of the, "There's got to be more than THIS" anxiety. And if it occurs to one that there isn't anything more than THIS, then the fear of utter annihilation easily sets in. So it comes down to a, "Please, please convince me there's more to my existence than just THIS. P L E A S E." Not for everyone of course, but it looms large enough to keep the believer in line. A peace that thankfully requires no understanding, just faith. Tell me what I need to hear and you'll have ear and my fidelity forever.

This is why ALL religions work.

I have another question for the religious: Does it really matter? Where we came from, where are we going after death? What's the big deal?
Mankind has always been fascinated with questions of the universe, both scientific and philosophical.

Does it matter? Yes, if there is indeed life after death. If there isn't, then it doesn't matter. Naturally, whether it matters or not depends on your personal view of religion. But until we can really know for sure, then the search for the answer to the question of life after death does matter, just to be safe.

What's the big deal? The possibility of discovery somthing really important.

Nobody could say I guess, how many religions there are in the world. How many just in the town where I live would be hard to say.

Lets say there are only 10,000 worldwide. That has to be a low low estimate!

People like to say the odds are against this or that aspect of evolution.

What are the odds that every one of the billions of people in the world are right that they just happened to have born into the ONE true religion?

Religions are based on deception, delusion and denial and believers perpetrate them on themselves, give them the idea and they will do the rest, once it's taken hold any doubts are banished and the conviction is absolute.
You religious icon says "Catholic", but your words say otherwise

It's consol again. Just look for a low post count, an unmistakable, outspoken disdain for all religion, and british spelling (favourite flavour?) all written in run-on sentences, and you've spotted consol's latest sock puppet.

Many students are "up all night" before the day of test. None of them can do well on the test, no matter how smart they are.
It is the same mentality when people do not think about death problem ahead of time. The fear will always come when they face the death.

Actually, I was at a party before my driving test, I stayed up all night and still managed to pass, with only a few minors.

And a few months before that, I was up all night playing Dawn of War before my driving theory test. I even fell asleep during the hazard perception... and still passed.

I got 5 A* to Cs in my GCSEs, enough to get into a decent college course, and again was up all night most of the time, either out or playing Counterstrike.

Still, I don't see how any of that applies to what Washington said.

As Twain said, "I was dead millions of years before I was born, and I'll be dead millions of years after I die."
The quote is: "I had been dead for billions and billions of years before I was born, and had not suffered the slightest inconvenience from it."

Hespera sez......Nobody who has actually been a college student, let alone a teacher could say this with a straight face.

Going back to what someone posted, there may be people who would prefer annihilation to an afterlife.

They wish it were true. If it were, they are lucky.
The faith to an everlasting afterlife does answer many many unanswerable questions. In science, if one answer can solve many problems, it worths a very serious look.

No it doesn't.

It's only worth a serious look if the evidence points to it. Pixie dust with magical healing properties would solve a lot of problems, but you'd hardly say that was worth a serious look, would you?

What evidence is there for an afterlife? What evidence is there that anything lives on after you die? What evidence is there that all of your memories, thoughts, feelings, emotions, etc, aren't all a result of your brain?

Cool! Answer a question with a bunch of questions.

We will take it as a yes.

You can tell us why you do it, or not, as it suits you.

I am not "Consol", I asked questions because I can not find a single post written by him, why? what did he do? and why do you think I am him? what have I done? and I must say the Scot seems obsessed with him.

simple yes or no was enough.
