Luke 21 (20-24) When you see Jerusalem being surrounded by armies, you will know that its desolation is near. 21Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those in the city get out, and let those in the country not enter the city. 22For this is the time of punishment in fulfillment of all that has been written. 23How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! There will be great distress in the land and wrath against this people. 24They will fall by the sword and will be taken as prisoners to all the nations. Jerusalem will be trampled on by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.

i have one question, Was the destruction of Jerusalem a one time affair or not? I have seen the News and the truth is, I see Jerusalem being surrounded by armies. I feel for a loved one who's at the heart of the city and all I know, they need intercession from those of us out here. So can we cut the chase that the destruction of Jerusalem already happened because Israel is now at the heart of Luke 21!!!

Greetings Linet Kihonge,

The event described in Luke 21:20-24 happened in AD 70 when the Roman army captured Jerusalem and destroyed the Temple. Notice that after this event Jerusalem was to be trodden down by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled v24. This reversal was tentatively achieved in 1967 when Israel recaptured Jerusalem. But there are some future events concerning Jerusalem yet to be fulfilled, detailed in Ezekiel 38 and Zechariah 14, but as a result the Kingdom of God will replace the kingdoms of men and Jesus will reign on the throne of David in Jerusalem for 1000 years Isaiah 2:1-4, Micah 4:1-8, Daniel 2:35,44.

Kind regards
Trevor

Greetings again Linet,
Have the times of the Gentiles been fulfilled?
I believe that the term "the times of the Gentiles" applies to the period of time from the overthrow of Jerusalem by Babylon until the destruction of the kingdoms of men at the return of Jesus Christ when he will establish the Kingdom of God. The kingdoms of men are symbolised by the image of Daniel 2 and the duration of the four kingdoms is the times of the Gentiles.

But Jesus in Luke 21 quotes and alludes to Daniel 8 and the events of BC 333-334 is a significant starting point for the 2300 years prophecy of Daniel 8, bringing us to AD 1967. The recapture of Jerusalem is as a milepost indicating that the time of the Kingdom of God is near at hand. Remarkably the fact that Jerusalem is now in possession of Israel could be a major catalyst for the nations to be drawn into the Battle of Armageddon.

Kind regards
Trevor

Have the times of the Gentiles been fulfilled?

2 possibilities here;

1: yes because the Jews are back in the land and the gentiles do not control it anymore. Thus the times of the gentiles stopped about 50 years ago.
2: no because the people living in Israel are not real jews, but the ones Jesus spoke of in Revelation. This one is a stretch for me. It appears that pure Jewish blood does not exist anymore. Most blood lines have been intermingled enough in the last 2000 years that most of us probably have some Jewish blood in our veins.

I'm confused about the topic. The title of the thread asks, "How comes Most of Revelation is about the Destruction of Jerusalem?" No one is talking about that, so let me be the first to address it. Most of Revelation is *not* about the destruction of Jerusalem. Most of Revelation is about a time that is yet future.

(Sorry if my post is off the real topic.)

Dysert, I know there are Christians who believe that most of Revelation was about the destruction of Jerusalem considering there was an alluded anti-christ from 1 century AD. So my concern was if the anti-christ came and deceived the nations leaving us in the 1000 year reign in Christ then what's the state of Jerusalem? Is Jerusalem still under the times of Gentiles or not? If Jews were taken into captivity by various countries, has its Jews been restored? Or who still have a hold of Israel is it the Jews or the Gentiles? :/

All things come in parables: Jerusalem represents the Holy of Hollies, i.e. the heart, whom is Christ. It is finished.

These, rather, are the times of the gentiles.

"Trampled" = To advance by setting foot upon, tread upon: to encounter successfully the greatest perils from the machinations and persecutions with which Satan would fain thwart the preaching of the gospel.

Scott if you are referring to Christians that would be the last days :swoon:
Exactly...the times of the gentiles.

But it is not the "trampling" of "Jerusalem", but the advancement and persecution of Christ (among the gentiles).

I don’t remember Bible saying it happens two times, so perhaps it was only one time thing, and we are now still living the “time of gentiles”.
