how can you be sure?

Hey,
How can you be so sure that the bible is true? That Jesus is true? How can you be sure that this isn't all just a story made up to explain the unexplainable? I guess i'm lacking in faith, but I can't help but wonder, and doubt.....

Jesus is a historical figure and is just as real as Abraham Lincoln. Jesus' life was documented by his followers and also by other historians of Jesus' day. There were coins at ~ 4BC that had a bright star in the sky in Asia and the Roman Empire. We also know Jesus through the succession of the popes from Peter (direct knowlegde of Christ) till today's Pope. This knowlege is similar to how we know Abraham Lincoln. No one is alive today with direct knowlegde of Abraham Lincoln, but we all know the Civil War occurred and he was president of the Union.

The understanding of that Jesus is the Son of God requires help from the Holy Spirit. Peter hid in fear until the Holy Spirit gave him the courage and knowlegde to spread the Word of God. Although he was a simple fisherman, he inspired with the Holy Spirit, he spoke and was understood by men of different languages. This was the start of conversion of the world after Jesus' death. Christianity had to start somewhere since there are millions of Christians today.

I promise that with more experience, that you will understand that the stories are true and that they will become more clear to you. In my life, I have had many experiences that confirm that God exists, that Satan exists, and God loves us more than we can ever understand.

read the book; "mere christianity" by C.S. Lewis. Probably one of the best testimonies out there, as he used to be an athiest. He explains in His book, how even through mere logic alone, athiesm is empty and Christianity is truth. Great book for all new Christians.

Think about it this way. Now it has already been proven by science that Jesus existed. Any atheist who has actually searched the information can tell you that.
Question your asking by the sounds of it is was he who the bible says he was.

There are three ways to take the claims
(1) That it was not true, he was nothing more than you or I but truly believed he was what the bible says (ie. he was mentally ill by todays standards)
(2) That it was not true and Jesus knew it. That he was a con man if you will
(3) That it was true and he was who the bible says he was.

Now do you really believe that he was mentally ill? I know that I can't believe that he was. He would have to be "I think I am an egg" ill for that to work.

Now what evidence is there to support what Jesus said?
His teaching, His works, his character, the fulfilment of prophecy from the Old Testament, his ressurection!
To support who he was?
His resurrection! He was dead when he was put in the tomb, modern day science can tell you that from reading what is in the bible (like when he was percied by that soldier and the water gushed out, much like if the same was done to a modern day corpse)

A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said wouldn't be a great moral teacher, he'd either be a lunatic- on a level with a man who says he's a poached egg- or else he'd be the devil of hell. You must make your choice. Either this amn was and is the son of God, or else a madman or something worse.
....But don't let us come up with any patronizing nonsense of his being a human teacher, He hasn't left that open to us. He didn't intend to.

C.S. Lewis in Mere Christianity

Now as far as the Bible, well we can date it or parts of it back to 300AD (I believe that is the approx. date). It coinsigns with many things that current science tells us. The flood? it happened! Looking at the rocks can tell us that. I know there is more incidents that modern science can prove but I just can't remember it at this moment.

I agree with Rising_Suns. Mere Chrisitanity would be a good book for you to read.

There is historical proof Jesus existed AND was a most amazing person. There is documentation to back up the Bible as truth in so many different ways. Archealogy verifies the truth of the Bible. This question has been asked before on this very forum, you might want to go back in the old threads and see what all was posted. Ultimately though, God gave mankind free choice, it is up to you to seek Him and make your decision. The best way to find out about our Amazing Lord Jesus is to study His Word. His Word is life to your spirit. You also need to seek out trueChristian followers and Jesus tells us in His Word how to find them, look at their fruit. Are they happy? Are they loving and gentle with their fellow man? These are fruits the follower of Jesus should be displaying.
