  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

How can we disagree?

No, the President said it had. That doesn't mean it did. :)

When you are the Commander... then the forces will listen to you.

Protestors are in the minority. So you can make your noise but it will not change reality.

If it makes you feel better, then go ahead and protest.

I can not say that I will be able to pick you out from your crowd. You will probably blend with many of the others who are anti-American.

Tell me Rae. how will you treat the troops when they return?

Today at 11:56 AM kitten said this in Post #4 However, when I expressed my opposition to a former coworker (who only wears ties with American flags & eagles & such, if you catch my drift), he reamed me out completely, called me antiAmerican and cut me out of his life. Isn't freedom of speech/expression (within reason) one of the things America's about?

edited for clarification ~kitten

Yes, precisely what our country stands for, and the price paid for it was a very high price. Don't take your freedoms lightly.

The anti-war protestors are NOT necessarily anti-American. There are some that are, certainly. But the continued accusation of them all of being so almost makes me want to switch sides ...

If someone disagrees with the elected president about something, are they anti-American?

This is the same sort of nonsense that the protestors (who I vehemently disagree with, by the way) in Australia have to put up with - and that despite actually being in the majority.

Sigh.

Why can't we all just get along, even with the people who disagree with us, instead of resorting to name calling/

David: I did not say that all protestors were anti-American. Do not read into my words.

But if you are looking for a large group of anti-American people to hang with ... a protest march would be the place to go.

IMO The time to debate the war is over.

This is more than just disagreeing with a President.

We are a country at war.

The only thing the Protestors are doing now is making a spectacle of themselves. I bet Saddam is loving it!

It seems as though you are still saying that many or most of them are, though.

There is no 'time to debate the war'. The rights and wrongs of this war will be debated for many years, and it is good that that is so. It is not up to the protestors to say, 'Oh, well - you did it anyway so now I'll go home.' It is up to the President of the United State to convince them that he was correct in his decision. If he can't do that then, as it should be in a democracy, they should continue their protest right to the ballot box.

You also questioned how Rae would treat soldiers coming home from the war, implying by the question that you think that she would treat them badly.

This is the sort of thing that I am complaining about - the automatic labelling of people with certain views or actions. A tiny, tiny minority of war protestors in Australia may be nasty to our troops when they come home. However, all public statements by those against the war have specifically mentioned support for our troops.

David : The question about the troops was because there was another war that was protested and the protest carried over to the solders themselves. They were made to feel ashamed and dishonorable. I pray that we do not allow this sad history to repeat itself.

I think it has been made pretty clear that because of that event it will not be repeated. Many anti-war protestors have made this point over and over again. Perhaps some people are not listening?

I think right now, we should be focused and praying for a short end to this war.

The mission is underway....

Now is the time to rally behind our troops, and support a quick and sucessfull mission, with minimum loss of life on either side. We will all have our chances for Monday morning quarterbacking, but now is the time to support our troops.

Let's get behind our troops, and table the political rhetoric for now. Instead, lets support a short and sucessfull mission, with minimal loss of life on either side.

The mission is underway.....

As hurting human beings who were exploited by our government. How will you treat them?

The protestests do more harm to the soldiers then the government. If your going to fight a war, then fight the war and get it over with. The protests cause the government to hold back and not fight as hard as they would, and that causes people to get hurt. It drags out a war longer than they need to drag it out.

Look at Afganstan, look at the first gulf war, they hit them hard and fast and it was over quick. But now we have protesters and so they are not hitting them as hard as they would otherwise.

Are you against the war Rae or are you pro Iraq? Perhaps you and Hanoi Jane can do a good will tour to Baghdad to tell them what poor depraved deprived people they are.

It is time to support our troops.  They have a job to do, let them alone to do their job.

While I can't speak for all soldiers, I as a soldier am not upset by people protesting this war.  I believe the majority of anti-war protesters still support our troops, the simply disagree with the current Administration regarding the war in Iraq.  Being a soldier is a noble proffession and soldiers don't get to pick and choose the wars they serve in.

I assure you the protests are not effecting how the military goes about it's bussiness.  Our objectives in this war are differant and our military is differant, we wouldn't follow the same strategy as we did in the first gulf war even if there was not a single individual protesting the war.

You can be pro-military, pro-peace, anti-war and anti-Iraq all at the same time.  Bush is our Presidant and were stuck with him, many of us don't like him but he's still our President.  We don't like his decisions, however we still support our troops.  Sadam is an evil man, many who are opposed to this war support the idea of him being removed.  We simply do not believe that this should be done independant of the UN.  Our troops follow orders and that's what we expect them to do, Goddess bless our troops.  Trying to label everyone who opposes the war as pro-Sadam is wrong and it harms our ability to engage in civil discussion regarding the issues.

They are good at getting people to follow orders. I was just talking to a recruiter and he said there was no problem to find people who want to sign up. The problem is to find people who qualify, that do not have a lot of police records. They need people who are willing to go along with the program.

Trying to label everyone who opposes the war as pro-Sadam is wrong and it harms our ability to engage in civil discussion regarding the issues.  [/B]

I am not really for or against this war. My wife is convinced the outcome is going to be good. Bush seems to be convinced that the outcome is going to be good. The people who are against the war seem to think the outcome is either not going to be good, or that it is not worth the price we have to pay.

So why are people protesting? Just what do they want? For Bush to pack it all up and send the troops home?
