But he tells them they are forgiven. Can't you see how that is a problem? Man cheats on his wife, man goes to priest ,man confesses. Priests says you're forgiven. Man goes right back to cheating because he never intended to do otherwise. Man never comes to saving knowledge through Faith because he doesn't think he has to.
If your objective was to prove that you don't understand what the sacrament of Confession is or how it works, congratulations on your success.

I'm not sure how your snarky reply helps me learn anything.

As I explained about receiving God's forgiveness, that man did not receive forgiveness. Either he is deceiving himself or the Priest. In this case he is sinning in the confessional. He is lying to the Priest. His confession isnt valid.
But he doesn't know that. He thinks he has a get-out-of-jail-free card because he is told that his sins are forgiven.

There was one who taught the truth and everything he said and did was true.
Why did He Bother if it isn't necessary?
Only a Catholic calls their church the Church and insists their pope to be held true as Jesus is.

You can't argue with Catholics because they are always right. What you can't acknowledge is that there will be many from other denominations in heaven so your important "true" doctrines are not needed for salvation. Maybe you think you will be in a special room in heaven.

Are we talking about the same forgiveness? I hope not.

In my opinion, forgiveness of sins in the deepest sense, concerning judgment day, is what salvation is about. Of course pastors and priests can forgive sins in another way, to restore a temporarily broken "fellowship" with God.
You dwell on forgiveness/atonement from eternal punishment.
You ignore a need to be forgiven in this age for punishment/rebuke/correction in this age.

It wasn't intended to teach you something. It was intended to let you know that I don't think you understand what the sacrament of Confession is or how it works.

When somebody sins, there are many consequences. There's the damage done to themselves, the damage done to their relationship with God and possibly the damage done to others. Each of those conditions must be addressed.

The penitent must repent of his sin. There should be genuine remorse for his sin as well as effort to not do it again in the future.

The penitent should also make restitution if it's necessary and if it's possible. His sin might have affected somebody else.

Confession reminds us that we don't exist in a vacuum. Our actions have consequences for ourselves, other people and even the Church.

This is a good point protestants fail to grasp. Reparation. If they did, Purgatory and indulgences would make more sense. I like this analogy. If you punch a person and break their nose and they forgive you on the spot. If you feel better and walk away and forget it, while it no longer exists for that person the forgivers is still in pain with a broken nose. If the sinner can throw sin back over their shoulder like that while their sin is the reason another suffers they haven't received forgiveness. Jesus said the womsn shedding tears at His feet must have been forgiven much because she loves much.

I don't know anyone Catholic who goes to confession with that attitude. Anyone who has the get out of jail card expectations would be sorely disappointed if they bothered to learn their faith.

I'm beginning to understand what you mean. I hadn't thought of that.

Matthew 9:2 Some men brought to him a paralyzed man, lying on a mat. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the man, “Take heart, son; your sins are forgiven.”

Luke 23:34Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.

Two times Jesus mentions forgiveness.
Two different scopes.
Forgiveness with faith brings eternal life.
Forgiveness of ignorance can at best avoid punishment in this age.

Maybe in what I write about forgiveness, but not in reality. I do repent from my daily sins and ask forgiveness from them (not from eternal punishment).
