How can I serve God while I am housebound?

I have a long-term illness which leaves me virtually housebound. I have a lot of free time and I really want to do something meaningful with it, preferably something which would serve the Kingdom. I've asked my own church and all the local charities and ministries I could find, but none of them have anything I could do to help them from home.

The only thing I can think of is making things to give away or sell for charity. But none of the local hospitals are accepting knitted items at the moment. Also, I'm on a low income so I would want to be sure it's what God wants me to do before I buy the materials.

Does anyone have any ideas?

I agree with Kingsdotter.. something online would be good. You could volunteer to help an online ministry. I gained a lot of leadership experience by doing that. Also... if you like knitting things.... there are places where disadvantaged children live who have need of things like blankets and scarves and hats that you could knit. Actually things are pretty bad in northern Canada right now. Google /knitting for charity/ and you will see a lot of things.....

Dear tammylouise. Jesus gave us the two most important Commandments in
Matthew 22: 35-40: Jesus told us: " The first and great Commandment is:
" Love God with all thy heart, with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
The second is like it: Love thy neighbour as thyself." Then Jesus pointed out this great truth: " On these two Commandments hang all then Law and the Prophets." Treat all you know and all you meet, treat them as you would love to be treated: God wants our Love, freely given and No conditions tagged on.
By being loving all around us, and treating all with love and friendly words,
God will see that you are following His Commandments to love and care, and God will Bless you. Perhaps you cannot do things lovingly, but you can listen
and perhaps advice well, and you can talk friendly and be encouraging.
In Matthew 7: 7-10: we can ask God for Love and Joy, and then thank God, and share it with others. That way you can brighten and enjoy many hours.
You might forget at times, but then ask God to forgive you, and carry on
being loving and caring in your words, rather than deeds. God wants our Love,
for God and for our neighbour: all we know and all we meet.
Ask Jesus our Saviour to help you: then enjoy meeting people. I say this with love, tammylouise. Greetings from Emmy, your sister in Christ.

Television ministries such as Benny Hinn, Joyce Meyer, Creflo Dollar or even an organization TV program called Tomorrow's World that focuses on bible prophecy that relates to present and future events of this 21st century - have become very informative as we Christians hopefully wait with great patience for our future-coming evidence/arrival of our Lord Jesus Christ who will transform our future lives into a socially active community where word/phrase annoyances such as:
homelessness, poverty, disease, loneliness, disability, old age, poor memory, low intelligence level, sexual crimes, violence - long-forgotten museum-like memory experiences once we socialize in peace in the real presence of our future global reigning Lord Jesus Christ where he will not resign his highest position for anybody no matter how many years or centuries pass by .;'*';. Rev 21:2

The best thing I can possibly think of is a prayer ministry. Heck, you're here at CF. Go to the prayer request section, and start praying for as many folks as you can get through. This could change lives. Praying for others is the most important thing we can do, whether incapacitated or not.

My 2 cents. I'll pray for your healing and recovery, while I'm thinking about it.

God bless,

Steve

well this site is a start, and there are other sites where you can join for free and help other christians just by your being there as a form of support..
how about making a beautiful card for each of the departments at your local hospital. something that they could put on their bulletin board that the patients could see..
what about writing letters to christian women behind bars, or sending a home card to the battered woman's shelter.. maybe a nice letter of thanks along with a hand made card to the animal shelter for caring for all of those animals..
these are all Christlike activities..
blessings sister.. know that you are not alone in your sufferings, and that you are loved..

One of my friend who is Chinese told me he found a Chinese Christian website that has a lot of bible study materials, and the intro of the website has something like this:
"2 police man showed up at my door, and they were surprised that I am a paralyzed peasant without college education. I told them the site has no intension of doing anything harmful against the government, but to spread the love of Jesus Christ, there is no harm to sociality but good" (I can't remember the details, what happened is the poor peasant with not much education decided to create a website for Jesus, without much help from church elders, and the site eventually became so big that it attracted the attention of the authorities...)

It might not be a website, but if you want, God will find a way for you to server him, sometimes even after death.

I am home-bound too and have a similar predicament. I also want to serve the Lord but am not sure how to do it. My only skill is that I am a good writer and I read a lot of Christian literature. Would you like to start an online site or blog with me where we can minister to believers and share the Gospel?

Online ditto.

There are soldiers who would dearly love to have someone to correspond with them, maybe send them some little knitted things, whatever.

I am currently at home a good deal and that is one reason why I commit to pray daily for a certain number of people on prayer forums, including some for the persecuted believers around the world. You can leave notes of encouragement to the latter on sites like icommittopray, opendoors.com etc.

The list is really endless of ways to serve online. It's just a question of which area matches your particular needs and preferences. Good for you that you want to serve.

Praying you will find just the right places to do so.

I don't think I have a calling. There are issues or causes that I care about, but nothing that stands out as the thing I should devote my time to.

I like making things and I've been trying out some different crafts recently. Maybe something could come from that if I got some more practice.

I used to write, and run websites, when I was younger. For a while I did think that writing could be my calling in some way. But I don't know how much knowledge or advice I could contribute.

Are you sure? I, and some others could help. If you change your mind, let me know. :)

I probably would be interested, I just don't know how much help I would be. I'm usually the one asking the questions, not giving the answers. What would actually be involved?
