  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

dear forum

i have always lived and worked around western cultures, europe and america, where people normally are having a lot to eat, and are constantly overweight. my own dad is weighing 120 kg at a body size of 180cm.

i am asking myself: how bad is gluttony ?
i think that the holy scriptures clearly state that it is idolatry, and that the true disciple will lay it off as sinful. well there´s actually a lot of people losing weight, but only for personal reasons, feeling better or being more attractive. but i also know of several very devout followers of jesus who just have a few kilos too much, especially when they are married for a longer time, or are just more settled with life and no longer so preoccupied with looks and all that....

when i have to deal with people in the church, i often feel like i want to condemn them for being so obese. i myself am 26, single, used to do a lot of sports in the past, lately i just relax but watch carefully what goes into my mouth, and it works just fine for me. but it seems like gluttony really is politically correct in western cultures...

i would love to hear some opinions or experience from your side

thank you

Markus

gluttony comes in many forms. Not just with food. A person can be gluttonous with the things of God. A friend of mine and I had a joke to illustrate this point. Church on Sunday, Bible study on Wednesday, Youth group Thursday, etcc.. Gee I don't have time for God, I'm too busy with ministry! Kind of not seeing the forest for the trees.
