SCOOP: Trump ally's Gulf of America bill sparks frustration in House GOP

FIRST ON FOX: A scheduled vote on making President Donald Trump’s Gulf of America name change permanent is causing some heartburn within the House GOP conference.

Multiple House Republicans who spoke with Fox News Digital said they were frustrated by House GOP leaders’ decision to spend time voting on what they saw as a largely symbolic gesture in an otherwise light legislative week. It comes as GOP negotiators work behind the scenes to iron out divisions on Medicaid, tax policy and green energy subsidies in time to pass Trump’s "big, beautiful bill" by the Fourth of July.

But the frustration is not limited to moderate and mainstream Republicans. One conservative GOP lawmaker vented to Fox News Digital, "125 other [executive orders], this is the one we pick" [to enshrine into law].

Meanwhile, Trump allies have defended the bill as a core part of the president's agenda. Trump himself has touted his "Gulf of America" name change several times, and even proclaimed Feb. 9 to be "Gulf of America Day."

The Gulf of America Act was introduced by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., a top Trump ally.

When reached for comment on some GOP lawmakers' concerns, Greene told Fox News Digital, "Codifying the rightful renaming of the Gulf of America isn’t just a priority for me and President Trump, it’s a priority for the American people. American taxpayers fund its protection, our military defends its waters, and American businesses fuel its economy. My bill advances President Trump’s America First agenda."

Rep. Jimmy Patronis, R-Fla., posted on X in support ... "This will be a tremendous economic driver for my district. Families across the country will flock to the Florida Panhandle to be the FIRST to enjoy the Gulf of AMERICA!"

The bill itself.
I think it's a nice touch that the new name comes with scare quotes so you know it's kinda fake.

(a) Renaming.—The Gulf of Mexico shall be known as the “Gulf of America”.

The American people didn't elect Republicans to make our lives easier, fix the economy, control spending, come up with sensible healthcare, or solve international conflicts. The American people elected the Republicans to do one thing and one thing only. To own the Liberals and live rent free in their minds.

America!

I love how their response to being treated as kind of dumb and kind of ridiculous is to act more dumb and more ridiculous.

what I love is it's another example of most of the world for most part ignoring it, unles it's to laugh at the audacity and stupidity of it, and the arrogance to think the rest of the world, especially the countries bordering it who combined take up most of the coast are just going to go, "Ohhhkay I guess it's now gulf of america."

Maybe the bill will help some Republicans learn where the Gulf is, since a Republican Congresswoman (the one that replaced Liz Cheney) talked about a major reason to rename it is how Mexico has been dumping raw sewage there, near San Diego, for 40 years. She went on to state, “That is another reason why we need to retake and claim ownership of this area and make sure people do know that it is the Gulf of America.”

I saw that mess in 1991. I think the Navy SEALs still train in that area.

The Republican-led House voted Thursday to to codify President Donald Trump's Gulf of America executive order.

It passed with a 211 to 206 vote with Rep. Don Bacon being the only Republican to vote against the measure.

Its fate in the Senate is more of a challenge, given that it will need bipartisan cooperation to overcome a filibuster.

"Why is the top thing that House Republicans -- going to do this week on their legislative agenda renaming the Gulf of Mexico?" [Minority Leader] Jeffries said at a news conference Monday.

And the best part for the Senate, is to do that, they just have to not do anything with it. (Not doing anything is their special skill.)

Just be glad that they're not trying to change the name to the "Gulf of Jesus."
