House Passes Equality Act in a 'Severe Blow' to Religious Liberty, Women's Rights

A landmark bill that would place sexual orientation and gender identity along race in the nation’s anti-discrimination laws passed the U.S. House of Representatives Thursday and advanced to the Senate, where its prospects are far less certain.

H.R. 5, also known as the Equality Act, passed the House 224 - 206 along a mostly party-line vote, with three Republicans joining 221 Democrats in support. All 206 “no” votes came from Republicans.

Opponents say it would have a devastating impact on women’s rights and religious freedom.

Although the House previously passed the bill in 2019, Thursday’s passage marked the first time it had passed with Democrats in control of the House, the Senate and the White House – a trifecta that gives it a legitimate chance of becoming law.

The Senate has never passed the Equality Act. Politico reported it is unlikely to pass that body in its current form.

President Biden applauded the bill’s passage.

“Transgender rights are human rights – and the House made that clear today by passing the Equality Act,” he tweeted. “Now it's time for the Senate to do the same.”

The bill would amend the Civil Rights Act of 1964 – a law that was passed to confront racial discrimination – by adding “sexual orientation” and “gender identity” to the list of protected classes for public places, education and employment.

It guarantees that individuals cannot be denied access “to a shared facility, including a restroom, a locker room, and a dressing room, that is in accordance with the individual's gender identity.”

It would force schools to allow biological boys who identify as girls to play on girls’ teams.

Rep. Andy Biggs stated that the "Equality Act" can take children away from parents who oppose schools giving them "puberty blockers" if the student is deemed to have expressed a transgender preference

    ? What?
Schools can't give any kind of drugs to kids now or take kids away from their parents for not using drugs that the school may recommend for say ADHD, etc.

I don't see anything in this bill that even implies a change to the school authority.

Could you clarify which part of the bill is Rep. Biggs referring to?

Putting it into context of God's will. That's the way these things should be.

Yes, I have no idea what he's talking about. These stories get tossed out in the QAnon media, and then they just get passed on as fact among the faithful.

Biden’s Most Radical Bill: Equality Act abolishes biological sexes | WRKO-AM 680 | Kuhner's Columns

under H.R. 5, it would be illegal and criminal for parents to refuse their 8-year-old child if he or she wants to take puberty blockers or begin hormone replacement therapy. This would be considered “transphobic bigotry,” potentially resulting in the parents losing custody of their child

Experts warn of Equality Act's impact on parents, children - The Christian Post

Parental rights are also in serious jeopardy with this potential law...parents won't be able to object to content because it will be seen as a discrimination issue.

Similarly, parents' rights to make healthcare decisions for their children would erode with the Act, according to Hartzler, referencing a 2018 case where a judge removed custody from the parents because they objected to their 17-year-old child being prescribed experimental cross-sex hormones.

“If this passes nationwide we could see parents facing a similar situation all over the country,” she said.

Making accusations against a sitting US Representative, who was present on the US House floor while the bill was being debated, before his very eyes & ears?

Pelosi’s Equality Act Could Lead to More Parents Losing Custody of Kids Who Want "Gender Transition"

Last year in Ohio, a judge removed a biological girl from her parents’ custody after they declined to help her “transition” to male with testosterone supplements.

the Equality Act, could give the transgender community a vice grip over the medical profession. It could open the floodgates for lawsuits against doctors who don’t fall in line with transgender ideology.

Politicizing the medical treatment of gender dysphoria could lead to more prosecutions against parents who refuse to aid in the sterilization of their children. As more doctors recommend that children take puberty blockers at age 11, cross-sex hormones at 16, and undergo “sex-reassignment” surgeries at 18, parents who resist could face charges of child abuse and lose custody of their children.

The tragedy in Ohio could be repeated in families across America.

Three GOP Congressmen Voted to Pass the Democrats’ Radical “Equality Act”

The Equality Act would be used to remove custody rights from parents who refuse to have their minor children undergo transgender medical interventions and procedures.

Well, then, just show us the information from the House record, showing that it says what he claimed. What do you have?

So it's already in the law? In a republican state, no less? Clicked your link, but nothing. I suspect horsefeathers.

    Here's the proposed act.

This isn't what I was looking for. I'm wondering where it is in the Equality Act itself that the government through schools can take children from their parents?

See my link to the bill. Nothing whatever like that in it. It's just unscrupulous people who are misrepresenting what it says to keep the faithful on the plantation.

Here's the story: Judge gives grandparents custody of Ohio transgender teen - CNN

I would agree that the Equality Act doesn't have anything to say about this situation. It would affect treatment of transgenders in school, but as far as I can tell not by parents. It modifies existing anti-discrimination laws to include discrimination against LGBT. It doesn't specify details, so even with this law the more controversial things such as trans girls in sports will end up being dealt with by the courts.

Have you read the bill yourself? If so, which section of this bill are you referring to in your posts such as the one I quoted? If you haven't read the bill please do and then respond to my question.

Well, since our distinguished politicians demand we abide by this sort of nonsense, I see no reason why we shouldn't demand they abide with this:

Too complex. Back in the day, they just self-identified as "equalizers."
