Yes, Texas is not one of the five states that puts citizenship on the REAL ID, so a REAL ID alone will not be enough to register to vote for most Americans.

But apparently Oklahoma is because reasons.

These are states with EDLs--Enhanced Driver's Licenses--which go beyond the basic requirements of the Real IDs, including citizenship.

I could have a car sitting in my yard that car could sit there for years and do nothing, yet if I were to get in that car and drive drunk or drive into a crowd that could kill a LOT of people.

A car is inherently dangerous. A ton of metal speeding down a crowded road (which is what it is designed to do) is an accident waiting to happen. So if you have something that could kill a lot of people if used incorrectly then we should make it compulsory for anyone using it to be taught the correct way to operate it. We should ensure that they pass a test to show that they are competent to use it. We should licence those people and restrict what they can buy. We should have laws that allow us to take away their licence if they don't obey the rules. Or they are physically or mentally unable to use it safely.

We don't say that cars should be banned because they kill more than 30,000 people every year. Everyone should be able to have one as long as they comply with the rules.
