Why fear? Mankind has worked really hard on pushing itself towards extinction. If the species has one redeeming quality, it is its unconcsious realisation that it needs to go. Now we can just lean back and enjoy the agony until the universe is finally cleansed of this blight.
Well, we understand there will be a cessation of all unreformed criminally acting individuals when God chooses to transition this world, where criminality includes mistreating neighbors such as by trashing the environment.... So, what you think should happen will, if not quite in the way you considered in this comment, but in a better way really. As the innocent and the reformed will be able to continue living.

I've generally slept well most all my life -- both before learning this great news, but also after. :)

That is staggeringly obtuse. The ice caps are melting at an accelerating rate. The temperature of the oceans has risen and continues to rise. The weather is becoming more violent.

The rise in temperature of the oceans and the melting polar ice were predicted. They have happened.
Define "alarming". And I'm looking forward to a wetter sahara and visiting Siberian wine country.

Here is Antarctice from 1980 to 2016. Nothing "alarming" there.

And the arctic? I simply refer to AlGore's prediction. PolitiFact - Fact-checking claims that Al Gore said all Arctic ice will be gone in the summer by 2013

Now, Gore isn't a scientist, but then, neither is Greta or Bill Nye. However, many hang on their words, and dangerously so. I prefer to deal with what has been scientifically observed and then analyze and critique the opinions of scientists with the reasoning capacity my Lord gave me when he created me. It's served me so far exceptionally well regarding subjects that enter the political realm. And this issue falls into that category.

You think these things will happen in isolation? Do you think a warmer Siberia doesn't mean a warmer world and that some areas of the Earth will be unhealthy to stay at during high summer? We are already seeing that now.

I simply disagree with your assessment that it is unhealthy.

Any change is very slow and human beings are almost as adaptable as cockroaches. Remember the Dust Bowl? That was dramatic and even then we adapted.

There is only so far you can adapt. We are well past that in parts of the US, and if it was for AC those places would not be liveable.

I moved from Seattle to Kentucky 12 years ago. I love it here, but I also tell people that if God had not invented air conditioning there is no way I would have moved here. Regarding ambient temperature. It's not a problem anywhere in the world any more than it has been a problem in the past, with the exception of any ice ages. And it is important to remember that God created this planet with it's own natural HVAC system. i.e. it is highly self correcting, even including human activity. A small part of that is the "heat sink" capabilities of our oceans. And it is important to remember that a warmer planet is also a wetter planet. Hence my previous remarks about Saharan orange groves. In fact, the Sahara used to contain vast forests. Note that the link tries to even blame prehistoric humans for that one too. :tearsofjoy:

I wonder what the people that used to live on the continental shelf had to say about global warming, while the ice sheet covering the northern US receded. ;)

It is this Alarmism that makes me distrust the severity of climate change.
Exactly. The alarmism coupled with the "dramatization" used by celebrities like Bill Nye and that teenaged girl.

BTW, I really liked Nye in his various roles in Almost Live. I wish he'd stayed in his swim lane.

The Sahara is actually extending. As sub-saharan countries are getting hotter and drier so their populations are increasingly suffering. A warmer Siberia means a greater release of carbon dioxide from melting permafrost.

I think you are pulling our legs, eh?

Us lay people are all victims of our sources. Mine have served me well - when they can be verified. So I'll go with that. We are all free to believe what we choose to believe. That is an especially powerful concept, especially on a Christian site.

I think you'd agree with this, so let me know

When glaciers melt/retreat in many places globally, there will definitely be some places that don't begin melting as much as quickly, because they are especially colder (generally) or at higher elevation (like the especially high elevation of Antarctic surfaces on average, where the high elevation adds dramatically to the surface cold -- Key physical features - Discovering Antarctica). So, if someone merely tried to find some area with little reduction in ice, that would be easy to do, and meaningless about whether or not more and more ice will melt globally (on the entire Earth as a whole).

Agree?

But, definitely sea ice is one of many places to monitor over time, just one of many, and of course there are 2 poles, so that any rational big picture will include areas around the world, and therefore what is happening in both the far north and far south as some parts among many parts.

Global sea ice has been decreasing notably in the Arctic in that over the last decade we have been very consistently lower than the previous 30 years before that, so that it begins to be clear there is a real change.

Big changes start with profound smaller changes, after all, so this isn't a trivial variation.

Don't make that mistake of thinking that man made serious climate change worries me ultimately in a way -- it doesn't worry me even the slightest bit ultimately because this entire world will be passing away, and we are only in a temporary place here.

But it's going to be devastating at times for people that think they need to rely on a stable place to live and live at low elevations near the sea, and increasingly nations like the U.S. and China will be to blame for not doing more quicker to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.

The heat sink of the oceans is filling up fast, and already affecting industries like oyster farming by making the water more acidic.

And I had to get AC to survive our rising heat waves in the Puget Sound. These are the warning signs, and that is why people are sounding off. We are heading to the tipping point. There are lots of small changes happening, and they are pointing to bigger changes around the corner.

You lay people are not served well when you swallow the lies of certain vested interests. Even now the petrochemical industries are doing their level best to persuade us that there is nothing much to worry about.

Even on a Christian site science is not a matter of belief.
