  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I love horses, but don't get to spend much time with them at all. I've had a few friends with horses, but they aren't interested in them and I never really got to be around them much. But, I am pretty naturally good with them. Someday I might like to own a horse.

I'm the most horse-obsessed person here! I own a 5-coming-6-year-old Welsh Pony/Percheron mare named Spunky. She's only 13hh, but she's the as strong as a horse. I ride her bareback because right now I don't have a saddle with a tree wide enough to fit her properly. She's much too wide for a normal horse saddle. She weighs about 850 pounds, so she's about 50 pounds overweight. Naturally big boned.
My Mom owns and rides a 10-year-old Arabian X gelding named Stormy. He's a real spazz! He licks people. He'll lick right up your face if you let him^_^
She rides Western, I ride bareback.
I don't really know if you would call it English bareback or Western bareback. I have an English bit, and hold the reins English style. I've never shown any discipline. I'm not THAT good.
You could say I collect every horse book and magazine out there. I've been obsessed forever. (I'm 14)

Wow...sorry for the book! I just found this part of CF, and I've never really gotten to talk about my horses before!

BUMP again. I want to talk horse!!:D
I'm a groom at a small riding school / boarding stable in Italy. I'm in charge of 17 horses and ponies, running the yard, escorting trail rides, and I'm an assistant introductor. I'm not from a horsy family... I didn't ride until I was 16... but now I'm an adult and financially independent, I'm living the dream :D
The outriding around here is superb. Flat, grassy gallops everywhere.

I kind of have horses lol.

They are a neighbor's, but he is elderly and has bad knees, so he doesn't ride much and he isn't capable of dealing with the young ones. And none of his kids or grandkids are interested.

So that leaves me, I work with them and ride them, so I call them "mine" even though technically they aren't :)

Anyway, I have 6, soon to possibly be 7.

Abby is a 7 or 8 year old grey dapple Peruvian Paso who is well behaved
Lil Bit is a 4 year old palamino Missouri Fox Trotter (bad manners, working on that)
Spirit is a not quite green broke purlino quarter horse/Peruvian Paso mix. Last time somebody got on her, she bucked like a rodeo horse.
Rosie is an almost green broke sorrel Peruvian Paso. She doesn't buck or rear, she just needs work on taking direction if you know what I mean. She doesn't understand.
Kat is a 7 or 8 year old chestnut and white painted Quarter horse who is also well behaved.

The one I might get is a 6 month old palamino Peruvian Paso gelding.

I first rode when I was 5 or 6, on a friends barrel horse.

Then never rode again until I was 23. Rode with a friend in Indiana. Then dated a girl that had 2 horses. And rode a horse that was in a theater show near Dayton.(Blue Jacket)
I am 42, and we have a horse now, will be 2 in April. I have seen alot, good and bad. But I love our Colt and can't wait to get good enough at riding to ride him.
I think he might be too fast for our family though, seems like he loves to run, and not trot or canter, but full throttle.

Young ones are a challenge :)

Although the faster they go, the easier it is to stay on lol. Trotting is bumpy unless your posting, which is kind of a pain. Better just to get your balance, learn how to sit it and deal with a little bounce. That's me of course :p

Spirit is my project horse right now. She's 2, and supposedly green broke. But I would say barely if even since the last time somebody was on her, she bucked like a rodeo horse.

Have you looked into clicker training? That's what I'm going to start with Spirit to break her, hopefully tomorrow.

I am a horse mad person. I used to own one myself, his name was Viking and he was adorable, and a bit grumpy most of the days. He was a welsh pony and I loved him very much. When Mum first got him for me I thought she hired one from the local arena but she didnt. We eventually got company for him, a pony he knows called Caspian. He was Reubens horse. I remember the first horse I rode, his name was Caruso, he has probably passed away but I loved to ride him when I rode him. I bet that Viking and Caspian r still together, caus we sold them together.

Here, this is my baby:
DSC00858.jpg

I've gotten her clicker trained and she can target, she knows "gimme kiss", she takes treats politely and doesn't pick pockets (common misconception that if you use treats to train a horse, they develop bad habits like that. Not true if you train properly). We're working on backing up now. She knows how to back, but I want to be able to stand in one place and have her back up 6 to 8 feet by verbal cue only and off lead, not just because I put pressure on the halter or I'm walking into her.

We're going to start leading manners next and then start working at liberty in the round pen :)

It's funny, I've only been riding for 6 months but I'm already training and breaking my own horse like I've done it a million times ^_^ I can only do this because of the clicker....I was so worried because all the books I've read and people I've talked to said horses don't respond to it like dogs do and it doesn't work as well. Well obviously they didn't know any different because I'm rolling right along!
