  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Okay so I am creating this topic because right around this time of year I start watching horror movies to start getting prepared for the Halloween season. (Now please no talk of Halloween on this thread because that will be talked about in a different thread at the start of October. This is just related to horror movies themselves.) So yeah, I am a Christian who loves horror movies. Why you may ask?

Simple. I love being scared and they're not real. (With maybe the exception of Amityville Horror which is probably the only horror movie that scared me too much that I can't watch again,.. and The Exorcist that is supposedly based on a true story.) So yeah,.. I have even seen Rosemary's Baby and I watch it every year for Halloween,.. not because I am a Satan worshiper or anything,.. but because I find it a completely interesting fictional story and it is incredibly scary to think that Satan could come into the world exactly like Jesus did and I hope that he never does.

So,.. go ahead and feel free to accuse me of selling my soul to the devil and any of the sort,.. (Staff, I'm asking for it by posting this topic and actually giving them permission to) but let's keep it directly on topic to horror movies okay? Since Halloween itself is a debate that I want to get to at another time when it's closer to the holiday itself. Oh and my favorite horror movies are the Child's Play series, Pet Sematary, (although that one was really sad as well) Carrie, (Original was the best but remake was pretty good as well. :D) Cujo, It, (As well as the remake) and The Exorcist. I'm not counting Rosemary's Baby because even though I thought that it was really scary, it isn't my favorite and neither is The Shining.

I voted yes, though, they can be evil as well.

The thread title is what reeled me in, Horror Galore", it's got a chilling sound to it...

It's hard for me to get scared of horror movies these days, but when I was a kid there was:

Freddy Krueger

Candy Man

IT

Pet Cemetery

...that's all I can think of right now.

I rather enjoy some of the old Hammer horror movies. Very gothic and quite enjoyable.

In general, I like monster movies.

The Halloween series also has quite a few enjoyable movies. The bad ones outnumber the good ones but I don't think the bad outweighs the good overall.

I do tend to be reluctant about the more demonic types of horror movies. I don't see the harm in monster horror movies or crazy killer horror movies but the demon-possessed ones seem a lot more questionable. That could just be a bias on my part tho.

Well I can't really think of any horror movie that isn't evil. I think that's like the whole entire point lol but I know they aren't real and it doesn't damage my relationship with the Lord in any way, shape, or form. I just find it as good entertainment. :D

I assure you that The Exorcist although perhaps based on a true story is totally take. I mean come on, when is the last time you saw a person turn their head 360 degrees and barf out green slime? Although,.. now I'm having second thoughts about one of my old high school teachers,....

Sensationalism is one thing. It's Hollywood, what did anybody expect? But in principle, there's quite a lot of truth to that film. Literal fact, that's something different.

I used to go see such films when I was younger, so I understand the thrill and rush of adrenaline they can give.

For some years now, I've actually done some 'ghost hunting'. I know full well these are lying spirits, as Enoch 15 tells us, the demons, or disembodied Nephilim. I've wanted to see some of the tricks firsthand. In the process, it has killed the thrill of such films for me. I've heard the voices, seen the shadows and apparitions, observed poltergeist activity, etc. So, when I see it on the screen, it doesn't really phase me much these days.

I like the occasional horror films, especially those with a legend, a twist in the end or clever storytelling. Some of the ones produced in the 1970s and 1980s were really good.

Also the kinds of films that aren't particularly 'scary' as such but give you the creeps! Doppelgangers make a good storyline.

Yeah, taught me why God doesn't want us messing around with Oujia boards,.. for our own protection.

Now hold up for a second here. Watching Ghost Hunters on TV is a lot different then going after spirits. BAD idea.

I don't see it as any different than Christians who study UFO-related phenomena. Same creatures. Different dispositions.

Yes, I like horror movies. Particularly slasher movies. Though I guess I would consider it a guilty pleasure here on a Christian forum.

Although I'm not particularly a fan of the slasher films myself, join the club. If they curse you they can curse us together. :D

Have you ever seen The Omen films? They have a similar plot.

Dude,.. watching movies and TV shows about ghosts and demons is a lot different than going after them yourself. I think the Bible says something about not contacting the dead and like I said before,.. God tells us these things for our own protection because He's our Father and He loves us and doesn't want us to get hurt, but when you play with fire you're going to get burned.

Btw,.. love this scene as it's scarier than the first but ironically hate clowns lol and also there's some debate about whether or not objects can be possessed like the Chucky films but forgot to add that for those of you who do not already know that Chucky was based off of a doll named Robert.

So,.. go ahead and feel free to accuse me of selling my soul to the devil and any of the sort,..

No need to get preemptively defensive, Rose; at least wait for someone to accuse you, first. ^-^

In me, you have a fellow veteran of horror who also believes in Jesus Christ, too, you know. :) ... Or I have cheap slasher movies going on in the background on Netflix while doing other tasks around the house or on the PC, to have something to look up at every now and again and make fun of. ^_^

To this day, however, I never could take on The Exorcist film. I guess because it seems so real. Creeps me out just knowing what I do of it from word of mouth and the few clips I have seen.

But send me a copy of Resident Evil 2 Remake and I'll be the first gamer to run blindly in wielding no guns but a paltry combat knife against all of the zombies and huge mutated monsters just to see if I have the guts to see such a challenge all the way through. They call me SK the Monster Slayer for a reason, after all. ^_^

Sorry,.. I guess I was just getting ready to run like the wind so I could avoid all of the angry Christians who were getting ready to drown me with holy water. XD

God tells us these things for our own protection because He's our Father and He loves us and doesn't want us to get hurt, but when you play with fire you're going to get burned.

I don't contact them. Even if I tried, I wouldn't use a mechanism that utilized myself as a power source, such as an Ouiji board. All that does is open yourself up to them. But I'm not afraid of them as they hold no power over me. As I said, I want to study how they behave, not strike up a conversation. Couldn't care less about what they have to say.

Believe me when I tell you I've been in prayer about this many times over a number of years. I don't tell many people who know me personally this, because it would just weird them out, but I've been seeing spirits at intervals my whole life. Growing up, I physically saw two demons and one angel with my own eyes (not at the same time), and a number of other things. That's what made me curious. I want to know what the hell they are doing interacting with us, and why. More recently, I had multiple interactions at the last location I went and checked out, Old Alton (Goatsman's) Bridge in Denton, Texas. Had an eyewitness to one and partial photo evidence of another. But I'm just an observer. I'm not goading them in any way.

As I said, it's really no different than studying the how and why of UFO-related encounters. Exact same creatures, just some in bodies and some disembodied.
