  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, the new one. It had jump out suspense moments, things that you didn't expect, gore, torture, as well as an unsolved ending.

Anything with something that jumps out quick is about all that scares me nowadays, been watching Horror movies like Nightmare on Elm Street since I was little.

The Ring ( I stopped the movie to collect myself, and to get a drink, I was really worked up)
The Shining
Night of the Living Dead (First Horror movie I have ever watched followed by Friday 13th pt 2, in the same night, I have loved horror movies ever since)
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (original)
Friday 13th 1-3 were the scariest of the series, I thought
Halloween
The Evil Dead
Silence of the Lambs (Jodie Fosters acting got to me, inside the house)
Jaws
Aracnaphobia

The movie Jaws scarred me for life. I'm now terrified of swimming in beaches. I can only wade in knee deep beach waters. And I'm not that comfortable in swimming in a pool either. Something in the back of my head keeps telling me there is a shark somewhere in the pool :D That movie made me scared of sharks!

Those japanese/korean horror movies are really scary. Examples are:
The Ring
The Phone
The Eye
etc.
I can't remember which ones are the scary ones and which ones are the bad ones though hehe...but those three titles are the ones that come to mind at the moment.

Yeah most of them are stupid.
The reason why they seem to be over the top stupid at times, is because they are concentrating on the special graphics, instead of the story, and acting. Plus Horror movies propbably make the least amount of money in the Box office, compared to other dramas. So producers, really don't like taking to many risky chances.

Even the Blair Witch Project, really isn't that good, its rather boring if you broke it down.
But
When that movie came out, no one knew if it was fake or not, and audiences flocked to go see it, shattering Horror movie records at the box office.
I saw it on opening night, and it definitly scared the pants off of me, I can't believe I forgot it.

But anyways the point is, even a great horror movie, needs to have the right timing for it to be effective.

Jaws was the first scary movie I ever watched, and I didn't trust the ocean for some time afterwards. Other ones that have gotten to me were Vertigo (not really a horror film unless you're afraid of heights like me), the Exorcist, which had me looking over my shoulder for a while, and that TV documentary about George Bush for entirely different reasons.

I don't like horror movies much and rarely watch them. I don't like blood and gore and I think a lot of them are just plain silly. One that got to me though was the Blair Witch Project. Something about those twigs snapping in the dark. I definitely lost some sleep over that one.

I thought that the Blair Witch Project was one of the most original movies to come out of America in recent years. I didn't get the chance to see it in the Cinema but I did watch it on DVD a few months back. It was totally gripping stuff!
I thought that Heather Donahue, who plays the lead girl, gave a fantastic performance as the vulnerable girl stuck in the middle between two domineering men. Her performance is consistently brilliant from beginning to the end. It just goes to show that the right script can make the heroine the hero, and the star, of the movie!
The ending also deserves a special mention. It does leave you wondering what happens to Heather's character and you feel the most sympathy for her in the end because she's been through so much.

Jaws is a brilliant film. What makes the film so brilliant is not the shark itself ;) or even the portrayal of violence in Spielberg's own special way but what makes the movie is actually the acting. The horror and the fear was written on the faces of the main actors. This is what sold the film to the audience. About 3/4 of the film is just the actors portraying their fear, especially when they are trapped on the boat, the other 1/4 is negligible.

They didn't have a script.
The director would give them some kind of info, from time to time, and they would improvise.
It wouldn't be that hard, considering what they were doing.

The actors I think got 1,000 for the job, each. But I'm not sure if they got any more money when it became a block buster.

This movie is so unique, there will never be another like it. Why? Because they're whole gig, was its real. I remember how the comercials use to grip me, I couldn't wait to see what was on it, not knowing if it was real or not.

Just last night, I saw the "Ring 0 - The Birthday".
Anyone else seen it? I thought the film was fairly decent since it contains some pretty good acting which is a little surprise from our Japanese cousins considering they are more famous for action oriented movies like Godzilla! However, in this film, some of the actors managed to portray a level of sensitivity that, up until now, I have only found in Indian and Hollywood films. I'm looking forward to watching the other Rings.

The Ring was a great movie. Although I didn't like the original Japanese version.
I think 28 Days Later is the best "zombie" movie I've seen. Although not strictly a zombie film. I just loved the fact that they RAN! No stupid dragging of feet. That's what made it so good.
oh I also enjoyed The Blair With Project. It was a great concept, and it worked.
i remember I used to be petrified of Stephen King's IT as a kid. I watched it when I was 7 y.o =] Then watching IT again, and realising it's Tim Curry... it's rather amusing. Though I still think clowns are evil!!!!!
