  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I read them sometimes. They don't weigh in on my beliefs at all, but I think it's sometimes fun to see how silly they are.

I do know that before I became a Christian, I read an entire book about my sign (cancer) and everything listed was completely true. I didn't and don't use that book to run my life.

God is in control. :)

Thank you. I think that is what it's all about.

First of all, horoscopes are a crock and they don't mean anything.

Now that that's out of the way, as Christians, we are advised to avoid all sorts of fortune-telling and other mumbo-jumbo. Horoscopes fall under that category.

Sure, I guess people belonging to any sort of group can have any number of characteristics ascribed to them. You can group people according to height, weight, sex, age, financial bracket, country, race, religion... etc. and find things that are "common" about those people. But I don't think that astrology is useful at all, and I think it's just a lot of wishful thinking.

Acts 16:16-18

16Once when we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a slave girl who had a spirit by which she predicted the future. She earned a great deal of money for her owners by fortune-telling. 17This girl followed Paul and the rest of us, shouting, "These men are servants of the Most High God, who are telling you the way to be saved." 18She kept this up for many days. Finally Paul became so troubled that he turned around and said to the spirit, "In the name of Jesus Christ I command you to come out of her!" At that moment the spirit left her.

For you have trusted in your wickedness… Therefore evil shall come upon you… trouble shall fall upon you… Let now the astrologers, the stargazers, And the monthly prognosticators stand up and save you from what shall come upon you. Behold, they shall be as stubble, The fire shall burn them; They shall not deliver themselves from the power of the flame…

this is about demon possession, not astrology.
and this is about how the magicians and astrologers couldnt prevent the fall of babylon.

no one has shown how the ancient astrologers were similar to those of today, furthermore. just because the bible translates the word as "astrologer" doesnt mean they have the same practices and principles as the astrologers of today.

again, im definitely not arguing for the validity of astrology, but im equally set against misconceptions.

Genesis 1:14 says (KJV):
“And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years.”

To me, lights in the sky serving as signs is what astrology is all about. Note the NIV has a slightly different phrasing which is not pro-astrology.

Again, just to reiterate since I started this post, I also agree we should not put our trust in astrology above God. I just find all this interesting, especially as it was part of my journey in coming to Christ in the first place.

Thank you, Becky. I don't think that's exactly on par with a horoscope, but I appreciate you. :)
