Would you keep secrets from someone you love because they would be upset and it would possibly destroy the relationship if you told?
Would you keep big secrets from a loved one for this reason?
Would you keep little secrets? where to draw the line?
Lies are a heavy weight to carry, and distrust is no basis for a relationship.
That said, its best to let sleeping dogs lie and not go into a relationship like it is a confessional. Human beings are by nature fallible and even with the best will in the world cannot handle everything that could be thrown at them. Discretion and honesty are both good values.
You don't need to confess to your spouse how you were nearly expelled for deflating the headmaster's tyres, or once got drunk and embrassing as a teenager.
Value honesty, yes, or you build on sand.
But value discretion also, or you will overwhelm a spouse who is only human.
