Dear Ohioprof,
You say you dont believe the Bible and then you tell us there are two different Genesis creation stories? If you dont believe them how can you tell whether they are different?

After spending a bit of time on the subject I'm still on the fence about it, but there is a possibility that it refers to 2 separate accounts, one general (man) and one specified (man-line of Christ). I don't really focus on it too much though as there are many other more relevant things to focus on.

Dear Ohioprof,
A scientific theory is only a theory because it is supported by a significant body of evidence. There is significant evidence in support of the theory of evolution. The Bible stories of creation are just stories. They are not literally true, and there is no evidence that they are literally true.
How do you know they are not literally true? I don’t know whether they are literally true or not, I am open about it, I know that God wants us to understand creation in this way but I wasn’t around at creation and neither were you. This is literal disbelief on your part is amazing, you literally disbelieve the Bible but you object to literally believing it, I have rarely met such disbelief to the Christian faith as yours.

I do not believe in the literal truth of many stories in the Bible
so how do you know there is a contradiction, you cant know whether there is or isnt if neither of the stories are true, there is no contradiction if they are both wrong. You see you are playing devils advocate here, you stick to describing what you believe and what it is based on and we who believe in the Bible will stick to it

I do not believe in the literal truth of many stories in the Bible, but I do read the Bible.
Hello prof, if i may I ask, do you believe that the bible conflicts with evolution?

Stories can contradict each other or simply differ from each other whether they are literally true or not.

Hello prof, if i may I ask, do you believe that the bible conflicts with evolution?
I think that a literal reading of the Bible conflicts with evolution, certainly. But many Christians who regard the Bible as the word of God see no contradiction, because they believe the Bible is not a literal description of events on earth. They believe that the Bible points to moral and spiritual truths and not scientific truths.

I believe the stories in the Bible do point to moral and spiritual truths. However, I believe the stories in the Bible were written by mortal and fallible human beings and were not inspired by or written by God. Therefore, I see the stories in the Bible as human attempts to understand God and to figure out moral and spiritual truths, not as what God says are moral and spiritual truths.
