I believe Larry wanted to split off and avoid talking about homoeoteleuton errors when dealing with the bulk of the 200 deletions in modern versions following the critical Greek text.

So to conform to his wishes, I've started a separate thread here just on the 75 homoeoteleuton from the ancestors of Aleph/B mistakenly adopted by modern versions:

Even if only half of these omissions originated in simple h.t. errors in the Alexandrian stream of transmission, it would mean that the modern 'critical text' is the biggest collective catastrophe to the text in modern Bible history.

We noted that most modern versions are now done so that all translations, Catholic and Protestant, be based on the UBS4 critical Greek Text. A quick check of the most popular English translations confirms almost complete conformity with UBS4, even and especially regarding the 75 known probable h.t. omissions found in the Alexandrian texts.

Here are some updated charts that can be saved and printed as .jpgs.

Each of the three popular modern versions slavishly follows UBS4, with the result that they have wrongly omitted text 66-71 times out of 75. That is, they are all in serious error over 90% of the time.

Christians are probably better off with a New King James or equivalent text, if they want a modern version without so many mistaken deletions of text.

One can now see the textual evidence in detail on these variants,
along with many other examples of homeoteleuton style errors
in the ancient handwritten manuscripts here:

To give an idea of how homeoteleuton errors actually occur
in the process of hand-copying a hand-written manuscript,
consider the following example below, reconstructed from
extant manuscripts and copying habits;

Codex Bezae - Matt 23:34 h.t. blunder

Here is another rather transparent h.t. omission,
either by the scribe of D or an ancestor:

This could be a double-line at about 22 characters per line
in the master-copy, or a single line skip at 42-44 cpl.
This area of text appears especially prone to h.t. errors,
and does not disappoint.

We can add the recent discovery of 30 more homeoteleuton errors,
which have been mistakenly placed into the modern critical Greek texts,
and which puts the known list of blunders in the critical text to about 100:

Several new possible homoeoteleuton errors have been found in the WH/UBS text in Luke's Gospel vs. the traditional text:

(probable Nomina Sacra blunder: EIS O IS)

This brings the total for Luke up to about 30 probable h.t. errors in Aleph/B.

A few comments are in order:

The omission of αυτω/αυτον is so frequent (there are dozens), that omitting this reflexive pronoun may at least in some cases be a deliberate policy.

The two Nomina Sacra blunders are interesting for similar reasons. The use of the Nomina Sacra obviously invites more errors in copying, and so we must suspect that again at least some of the common omissions of the names "Jesus", "Lord" etc. are not so much from an excising policy as from the copy offering too many opportunities for scribes prone to such errors. The inconsistent use of the Nomina Sacra over the years also invites more opportunities for a mistake.

11:4 is a weaker example, however this is re-strengthened when we see that the omission is a typical line-length, as is 24:36b. Also, generally speaking, tired copyists don't need any excuse at all to skip a line, and any similarity would assist in generating the error.
