Homesick.

I just moved away from home a couple of months ago. I'm 900 miles away from my family and won't go back to visit until Christmas break.

I'm really, really lonely. I haven't made friends here yet, haven't quite settled in in any one church, and I miss my family so much.

Do any of you have ideas on how to get over the homesickness?

I am still in high school so I haven't yet moved away for an extended time period, but I attended a program in England last summer and felt pangs of homesickness often. I've also really missed my big brother since he started college a couple of years ago, and had a hard time adjusting after my boyfriend moved 3000 miles away for college last year. We're fortunate to live in a time period where technology enables us to remain connected to one another despite huge distances. I Skyped with my family every night when I was in the UK, and it was a tremendous help. I regularly FaceTime, text, and talk on the phone with friends and family members who live far away, and it keeps them close to my heart. Maybe you could do the same.

Hopefully you'll be able to build up a new social life when you start college. In the meantime maybe you could get plugged in with a youth group at a college, or through activities. You could also check out a site like MeetUp.com and see if there are any active groups that interest you.
