  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

My 4th grade daughter is regularly bringing home 3-4 hours of home work a night.
and on some weekends she is spending 8 hours with the home work. (not counting memorization.)

She is already wanting to quit school.
Is this normal or is our teacher overloading the kids?

Other teachers(other grades) Mentioned that 4th grade is very tough with
home work. But when my daughter is spending 63 hours on school a week this is crazy.(40hours in school, 15 hours after school and 8 hours on week end.)

Another teacher said there was the tradition of ten minutes of homework per grade level. (40minutes?)

No, it's not normal for a fourth-grader to have that much homework. I rarely had homework as a fourth-grader. There have been complaints filed with my school because high-schoolers had approx. that same amount. If I were you, I'd appeal to the schoolboard and talk to the teachers assigning such an excess amount of homework.

...and people wonder why the nation is going to the dogs...

you complain (and your daughter) of too much homework, i say more education is a good thing, and when she complains tell her that japanese kids have it even worse than she does...

besides if you are in a private school, then you shouldn't complain becasue you were the one that put your child there, and if you aren't then look into private schooling

I personally believe that Compulsory Educaiton is one of the WORST institutions ever established on American soil, it is demolishing the very souls of our children, I may be an extremist, but there is a TON of evidence that I base my theory on, spend anytime studying human nature and the foundations of public school and you will realize something is gravely wrong! Just do a search for "Compulsory Education" you will be astounded! (A site entitled "Strike the root" offers a VERY good history)
