Holy Laughter

I used to attend a church which was going through that. It didn't seem edifying to me, and those who didn't get it, felt left out.

I'm waiting for someone to bring up some instance that happened where someone farted when they were delivered

henceforth known as "farting in the spirit"

Interesting thought. I am convinced that if such a thing happened in a church service and the preacher endorsed it and Rodney Howard-Browne promoted it it would launch the Great Farting Revival of 2007 and would have as many supporters (and practitioners) as the “Laughing Revival”.

More remarkable, still, there would be a host of defenders of the practice who would deftly show how such a practice was actually be “decent and in order”.

Tongues? Aren’t we talking about “holy” laughter?

Well you were taking about 'self control' being one of the fruits of the Spirit and also 'uncontrolled hysteria'.

Now couldnt the believers at pentecost have exercised some self control?

I dont think a person can control the Holy SPirit, actually the Holy SPirit controls you:

Romans 8: 9You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you.

When the holy SPirit comes upon you then you are not able to just turn Him on or off like a TV set. As Jeremiah said, when the Holy SPirit came upon him and he didnt speak out, the word burned inside him like a fire and he had to speak out.

Holy laughter is the anointing ... Jesus name means the anointed one ...

I have been to Brownsville at it's peak in 1996 ... I stood in lines a block long all day just to get inside. the first four days I could only get into the overflow room.

I spent two weeks there and it was my introduction to being slain in the Spirit and Holy laughter and people shaking all around me.

I didn't laugh, but I smiled and felt great inside ... I didn't shake, but boy were they shaking all around me, especially in the baptism pool. They were like fighting mad in that baptism of water.

I didn't know what to do at first. I asked the Lord what the shaking was all about, because it sure seemed like demons and we all know christians can't be possesed by demons, right?

Finally the Lord said, "I'm not going to tell you ( meaning what the shaking is about), because you would just tell me what to do about it"

The singing by Lindell Cooley was really good ... When everyone sang, "Yes Lord I'll Ride with You" it was like a room full of angels singing.

I left there with the anointing and drove to Arizona and then moved to San Diego where six years later I ran into a man named Rodney Howard Browne from South Africa.

He's the one that started his ministry with the anointing of the Holy Spirit and Holy laughter ... Rodney Howard Browne is the one that started the Tonroto Blessing, but that one I'll leave alone, because I've been discerning for a long time and it has a different feel about it, but that's just from watching them on the Angel channel.

Back to Rodney Howard Browne ... the first time I saw him I crossed my arms around my chest and I said he's not going to get me to do anything funny. He had everyone else laughing and slaying them in the Spirit, but not me.

That was the first night ... the second night his wife Adonica gets up and says, "We didn't think this was the Lord either when it first started, but it just kept going on"

I decided to loosen up a little and went forward for a invitation to recieve the anointing ... At least 150 people stood in front of that stage all lined up and he never touched us. He just waved his arm and said, "Lord anoint them"

We all fell down and I started feeling real good and then I tried to stand up ... No could do ... I couldn't move and it was beautiful.

It's been six years since I was in the same town when Rodney Howard Browne was there, but now I get him all the time on God TV channel 365 Directv ... I don't think you can post links here, but he is over at revival.com

You will be blessed, you might not laugh like the others, but you will recieve the Holy Spirit. The unction is the moment the Holy Spirit comes upom you.

Like someone said earlier in these post the devil is the deciever and he does try to manifest with the barking and mooing during some preachers services, but Rodney is the real thing. All I have heard in his meetings are geniune laughter.

Try him out ... I know I did ... Might take a week or so ... nothing to be afraid of ... He's a long way away for most of us in Tampa, Florida ... but he has a Holy Spirit Weekend coming up this week and his services are live on the internet ... revival.com

I like him and I heard his wife preach one night and shes' good too. He preaches at Mac Hammonds church and I watch him live online. He took some getting used to, the laughing part. I kept asking God about it, and kept watching him, and I really like him.

Man, that would be a crazy service to walk into, people oinking like pigs, guys running around like rhinos ramming into things,..

If I was an unbeliever, I would run out of that church for good.

farm animals?? Never seen that before. I have never been led to do anything like that, unless I'm teaching children or something.

Holy Laughter consists of
1. Uncontrolable laughing
2. Jumping and bucking
3. Oinking, mooing, and clucking like barnyard animals
4. Abnormal shaking and convulsing

I am a trinitarian Pentecostal though. I am not attacking beliefs. I really want to know.

Holy laughter is just that... laughter. No farm animal sounds. It's uncontrollable laughter.

I think laughter can be a genuine manifestation of the Holy Spirit's moving. I have experienced an outpouring of the "joy of the Lord" that bubbles up inside you and pours out in laughter. It's wonderful, it's encouraging and uplifting.

It's the "uncontrollable" part that bothers me, frankly. In 1 Corinthians, Paul said that our services are supposed to be orderly. I've been to a service in which people were doing 'weird' things and it was the worst service I've ever attended. I honestly think the Holy Spirit was grieved by what went on there....I had a sick feeling in my spirit for days afterwards. During the service, all I knew was that God was telling me to get out of there.

There was one woman there who did the 'uncontrollable laughter' thing and all it did was serve as a distraction. There were other people yelling and screaming, blowing shofars, banging on drumbs and tamborines and just making a complete cacophony. It didn't edify the Body - meaningless sounds don't.

Futhermore, it distracted from meaningful prayer and fellowship. Another woman and I were praying for our friend at the time and all the noise and confusion distracted us from that. That other woman and I left that 'conference' early (we were supposed to stay another day) but neither of us could handle any more. We went back to our hotel room that night and discussed what had happened... we were both feeling sick and disgusted about the whole thing and realized that we both felt God was telling us to leave. We both knew it wasn't from God.

As to animal sounds... how could that possibly be from God? And the convulsing, etc, sounds demonic to me. What purpose could that possibly serve? How does that edify or build up the Body?

Maybe it wasnt' of God that time. If you were feeling sick in your spirit, that means something is wrong. When it's of God we'll feel peace in our spirits, even if our head has no idea what's going on, like if its' new to us.

I pray that shame overwhelms you, that you come to repentance. And then, you see clearly that the shame was not your's, and you are as free in Christ as those you did not recognize as brothers.

The only thing though that is a couple of people you quoted- Spurgeon and Wesley taught wierd stuff. Spurgeon was a Calvinist.

I've seen and experienced laughter that I would attribute to being spirit led, I've never seen oinking or braying though, although I have heard some people who's regular laugh sounded like braying and one who kinda oinked or snorted when laughing. But they weren't "laughing in the spirit" that was just their normal laugh. Er abnormal laugh really.

Sounds more like the circus than a worship service.
