Everything is holy in a sense, but it is too easy to accept the simple definition that is just a reference to things set apart for God's use. In Scripture I do not see any effort on God's part to have us treat everything as holy. He reserves the word for for his presence and things he has commanded to be treated as holy. He seems to be reserving the word's use for what is exceptional (things directly connect to him) and not common (everything else).

That is my point... He differentiates between something that is holy and something that is profane. I get Mark's point that if God made it then it is holy, but I think that is using a definition that is more in tune with our religious sensibilities rather than in harmony with certain Scriptural applications. That is why I used the "holy ground" example with Moses.. if all ground is holy, then he should never have had his shoes on. So I think being holy is being set apart for God's use, and something that is common is simply not for use in relation to God. Think of Aaron's sons... they brought in a common or what would become profane flame and they died for it.
