The Holy Spirit indwells a believer AFTER salvation, which is spiritual birth. Man is created with a body and a soul, missing our third part. When one is born again, it means the Spirit of God has indwelled that person. By the blood of Jesus they were washed clean, making it possible to for that unbridled communion between God and man.

I prefer the term Holy Spirit, because God is spirit, and is omnipresent. Holy Ghost just makes me think of a single ghost floating around. Thats just personal opinion though.

I received the Holy Spirit at baptism and chrismation. And I like to think that He acts through me on a daily basis.

But, there is a difference between "being saved" and "becoming a Christian". We'll only know for sure about the whole "saved" thing after the Final Judgment.

Man is created with a body and a soul, missing our third part.

Man is a spirit, has a soul and lives in a body. The following verse was spoken before salvation was available, and it says she had a spirit. And when that spirit departed she died.
LUK 8:53 And they laughed him to scorn, knowing that she was dead. 54 And he put them all out, and took her by the hand, and called, saying, Maid, arise. 55 And her spirit came again, and she arose straightway: and he commanded to give her meat.

JAM 2:26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

According to the promises of God, I received the Holy Spirit in my baptism (for example Acts 2:38 and Titus 3:5).

Without putting my mind to really thinking about the question, my first answer would be at baptism. As you've pointed out it is what the Bible says. It also features in baptismal liturgy of (at least) those who have sacramental theology (maybe others as well, I don't know).
"In this sacrament we celebrate: the life of Christ laid down for us, the Holy Spirit poured out on us, and the living water offered to us..."..."Gracious God we thank you for your gifts of water and the Holy Spirit..."

Yeah, we receive the HS at baptism.

Yeah, we receive the HS at baptism.

In chapter 8 of the book of Acts the Samaritans had both, received the gospel and been water baptized, and yet those actions did not bring about the receiving the Holy Spirit. What they did accomplish was the rebirth of their own spirits which made them holy spirits. But a holy spirit is not to be confused with the Holy Spirit. Translators not knowing this truth did a great injustice in their translations. According to a study bible I have, translators incorrectly capitalized spirit or holy spirit over 52 times in the NT.

I will agree that you receive the Holy Spirit as part of your salvation experience. However, their is something that follows and it is a filling of the power of the Holy Spirit. This should be a continuous experience but for many it is only occasionally.

The filling can be both partial and complete. When complete their is usually an occurance that can only be explained as a Godsdince or a Miracle. This rules out the consequence.

I know we may not agree papaJP, but I don't find scripture to support partial birth abortions...or a partial re-birth of human spirits. Upon initial salvation, the human spirit is wholly sanctified and saved. In my opinion, a man never receives 'a part' of the person of The Holy Spirit at rebirth, he receives a wholly sanctified 'holy spirit'. And then, just like the Christians at Samaria receiving the person of the Holy Spirit is always subsequent and never as 'a part'.

Samaritans had been baptised in the name of Jesus only (v.16 the Spirit had not come upon any of them; they had only been baptised in the name of the Lord Jesus). , when baptism was commanded to be done "in the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." (Matt 28:19). If the Samaritans had been baptised also in the name of the Spirit, then according to Acts they would have received the Holy Spirit (the text explicitly says that they didn't receive the HS because they had been baptised in the name of Christ only).

I've heard this reasoning before. Personally, I don't believe that Phillip the evangelist was smart enough to preach the gospel...and had enough authority from God to heal, cast out demons...and yet was too dumb to know how to baptize people correctly. I am of the persuasion that the modern church doesn't understand things that were understood back then.

If you understood what I posted to mean you receive only a part of the Holy Spirit I am sorry. What I said is you receive the Holy Spirit. However you have not been filled completely so that you are able to walk the walk in the total power of the Holy Spirit. Many receive the Holy Spirit but they do not all walk in His Power. Why? Because they do not allow Him to totally fill them and guide them. Doubts come from satan and if you or anyone has doubts about their salvation then the filling of the Holy Spirit is not complete.

By the way have you walked in many of the gifts of the Holy Spirite.
I have been used in many of them and continue to seek His filling so I can be used in all of them.

The only miracles in healing I have not been allowed to be a part of is the sight given to a blind man who was born with no eye balls.

If I sound sure of my theology that is because of the many miracles that He has allowed me to see and be used in them.

I only post here to try and make those who have doubts to seek assurance from God through Jesus the Christ and in the Power of the Holy Spirit.

God's blessing and mine to all who seek the truth and a deep relationship with the true God.

I understood what you meant, and at one time I also agreed with that position, but no longer do. I like my present view better because it answers more of the disagreements I run into with those who are both fundamental and pentecostal.

Many receive the Holy Spirit but they do not all walk in His Power. Why? Because they do not allow Him to totally fill them and guide them.
I don't think that one receives the Holy Spirit at re-birth. I think your unholy spirit becomes holy upon being 'born from above'. At that point "our spirit bears witness with the Holy Spirit" and our spirit is the equivalent of the 'spirit' that Jesus was born with...which wasn't the Holy Spirit, it was His perfect human spirit. That spirit is the same spirit he gave up on the cross. And that spirit has the power to allow one to walk in righteousness, just like Jesus did. But He never had the power to perform the miracles until after He received the Holy Spirit. And according to scripture He didn't receive the Holy Spirit until He was 30 when it descended upon Him as a Dove. And that's when the Holy Spirit miracles began.

Doubts come from satan and if you or anyone has doubts about their salvation then the filling of the Holy Spirit is not complete.
We are just going to have to disagree with this statement of yours. I know of no biblical basis for it.

By the way have you walked in many of the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
Every gift but one...interpreting a tongue in a group setting anyway. But I do believe that I have interpreted my spirit's prayer tongue before.

I have been used in many of them and continue to seek His filling so I can be used in all of them.
If you have access to the Holy Spirit, you have access to all His gifts. You can't earn them they are given as "he inspires and wills to give them"...not as we 'earn' them in my opinion.
The only miracles in healing I have not been allowed to be a part of is the sight given to a blind man who was born with no eye balls.
That is a wonderful testimony brother.

If I sound sure of my theology that is because of the many miracles that He has allowed me to see and be used in them.
And my God has worked with 'my theology' too. But I don't believe that proves it's right. I know many who are very sure of their theology...and they don't even believe the gifts are still available. Personally I think that the supernatural gifts are more dependent upon being "led of the Spirit" in a situation and then having the "faith" to move in that 'leading of the Spirit' for a manifestation of the gift to take place.

I only post here to try and make those who have doubts to seek assurance from God through Jesus the Christ and in the Power of the Holy Spirit.
A very worthy goal, to be sure. My personal experience though has been that most here are like concrete in their theology...'all mixed up and very hard to change'.

Seldom have I seen someone change their mind here IMO.

I say it dont matter when you get the Holy Ghost but you need to get it

Unfortunately many don't though. Partly because they've been taught they got it when they were born again, and partly because all that 'tongues stuff' scares them like it did me the first time I heard about it. Unfortunately there's also those whose pastors teach against it.

JesusnamefollowerofChrist
read acts 19, 10
we can be filled with the Holy Ghost before or after baptism in Jesus name but must be after repentance
Personally it happened to me after repentance and getting born again. Six months later I received the baptism of the Holy Spirit and then two months after that I was water baptized. I guess my experience was kind of like the
Gentiles at Cornelius' house in Acts 10.
