I think we need to look at the context of the New Testament as a whole and not allow ourselves to get stuck on just one part of it, if we don't seem to understand something, then we tell god to help us and move on to what we do understand. We need to take the teaching for what it is, and that is a combination of teaching about self righteousness vs the righteousness of Christ and teaching about obedience to God that bears good fruit when obeyed. This includes teaching us to do certain things and not do other things. We should pray for patience, faith, humility and even the ability to love him and others, while always resting In Gods Grace. We can do nothing to save ourselves because only faith in Jesus does that. However we must pray that God help us to obey the teaching of Jesus and the apostles. All we need to do is ask to God help us to do what Jesus and the apostles tell us and be patient and know that God will help us in time. We should always examine ourselves and compare it to what the apostles and Jesus teach us. If we fall short on anything, we must pray until we get it.

Did the ECFs really know/understand the Scriptures better?

from scratch

Abe listened to what God told Him to do so his faith declared Him righteous. God tells us to do many things in His word through Jesus and His apostles and faith tells me to listen to God because i want to know Him also. My faith is in Jesus and faith obeys what its taught to do, at least that's my understanding of it. So if i have faith in Jesus i will rest in Gods forgiving Grace but also obey His teaching.
So does faith tell you to do anything in the Scripture? I think I missed that except to believe. The Spirit doesn't lead me to the law either. Here is what God told me to do - And this is His commandment, That we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as He gave us commandment.

Abe didn't want a false God that didn't talk to him, one that didn't have any power and neither do I. I don't want an idol, i want God. God speaks to me in his word and in my heart, so i know i am a son of God because His spirit tells me i am. I'm not following after idols, the word of God is not idolatry, living like the world lives is idolatry.
So what bring this up? Somebody's post? Which one?

If Abraham didn't leave his home or put Isaac on the alter then his faith wouldn't be very faithful.
No, my faith doesn't tell me to do anything that the bible says , it tells me to do anything that Jesus and His apostles say, and i have made that as clear as can be. If God tells us to do anything by his Son Jesus and His apostles and we listen, then its because we have faith in Jesus, not because we don't. Do you like to argue or something?
