What is it?

I ask because some seem to say holiness and righteosuness aren't the same thing.

No one will see God without holiness and yet righteousness is discussed in Scripture to imply holiness? I think there is more than one meaning of holiness or being holy. What do you think?

I think there is only one meaning torighteousness.

Holiness is the same word used for saint .

we are righteous by faith or trusting him .

and holy by given nature, in that those who are born again are holy and saints, Paul illustrates this in his marriage chapter in 1st Corinthians .

2Co_7:1 Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God

Please explain to me what this verse means. And how we obey it. Thanks.
I especially like where that word is used in 1 Thess 3:13 concerning the "parousia" of the Lord

The ISA interlinear has "holy-togetherness", perhaps because of the suffix "sun" added?

But what does the verse mean? Doesn't it mean to actually cleanse ourselves of works of the flesh by not doing them? And by fearing God if we do them and cleansing ourselves through prayer and by forsaking them?

You're justified by faith.
But the apostles and Christ preached repentance from dead works.
You have to be holy, not just believe you are holy.
Albeit, like I said, you are justified by faith.
Faith in what? In the Lord Christs atonement.
You are able to let go and forgive yourself because you believe in him.
He wants believers with pure consciences who practice holiness.

Holiness means just that, everything that is pure, good, righteous, gentle, selfless, lovely, etc.

Holiness means to be perfect-and is the same as righteousness. It means simply to be wholly the beings God created us to be, no more and no less. In its most concise form it means to love God with our whole heart, soul, mind and strength and our neighbor as ourselves. Because this is mans' justice-what makes him just.

Ya gotz to bathe in the blood of the Lamb :liturgy:

1 Corinthians 6:11 And these some ye were. But ye are washed/apelousasqe <628> (5668), but ye are hallowed, but ye were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and in the Spirit of the God of us.

Revelation 7:14 And I have said to Him "lord of me, Thou hast known".
And He said to me "these are the ones coming out of the tribulation, the great and they wash/eplunan <4150> (5656) the robes of them, and they whiten them in the blood of the Lamb".

I don't disagree. We are washed clean in the blood. And having these promises let us cleanse our selves of all filthiness of the flesh and spirit. I notice it doesn't say allow yourselves to be cleansed, it says let us cleanse ourselves.

What do you call filthiness of the flesh? I call it sin. Is the only way one can avoid sin to follow the law? I don't think so. No one has yet according to the Scripture. Not even Paul. Jesus, yes.But then He is God. He didn't inherit a sin nature. We did. Our father is Adam and Jesus' Father is God. I think the answers is in Gal 5.

Filthiness of flesh and spirit is anything that is not walking in love and holiness i presume. All i know is i pray and try and i love Jesus.

Unblameable in holiness. Would this have anything to do with righteousness? Isn't it said that Zacharias was righteous in Luke 1:6?

Can you be holy or righteous and do the works of the flesh? I think you have good point as I've illustrated with ny unregenerate and yet upright neighbor. Incidently he treats me better than my professing chirstian neighbor.

Ah repentance from dead works. What are those dead works? Are they just what we call sin? those dead works must not be able to make or aide one into the state of holiness or righteousness if they are sin. Some here say they're not.

I think this scripture helps define holiness

1Th 4:1 Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more.
2 For ye know what commandments we gave you by the Lord Jesus.
3 For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication:
4 That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour;
5 Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God:
6 That no man go beyond and defraud his brother in any matter: because that the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also have forewarned you and testified.
7 For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness.

So do we become holy/righteous as a process after salvation or are we holy/righteous at salvation?

Yeppers this also has to do with sanctification and justification. Neither are a process.
