  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

[Laloni]I think the best book for discovering holiness or anything that is about the way that God wants us to be, is the bible. Other people have the things that God tells them about, how to live there lives, but by reading the bible, having a one on one relationship with Jesus, He tells each individual how to be holy.
Although I also find books to be helpful, they are not the same thing because it can be a replacement of the relationship. especially when talking about the Spirit and holiness. Who can write a book about the Wind except the Spirit. He wrote only one book.

:amen:

I agree.....

Holiness is something I'm really struggling with at the moment. When I draw near to God I really do feel as though He is there and He knows my struggles, but I always seem to mess up. I want to live a life that is holy, I want to live a life that is obedient to God's will and yet I find myself going back to certain destructive things that are stopping me from moving into that place of holiness.

I really respect those who are walking in that holiness. I can see Christ in them so clearly and I know that He wants me to be in that place whereby I can trust in Him, lean not on my own understanding and surrender all. When I do that I believe He will help me live that life of holiness and obedience.

Holiness

"You ought to live holy and godly lives." 2 Peter 3:11

Holiness is a very comprehensive word, and expresses
a state of mind and conduct that includes many things.

Holiness is the work of the Spirit in our sanctification.

Holiness is the fruit of faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.

Holiness is the operation of the new nature, which
we receive in regeneration.

Holiness may be viewed in various aspects, according
to the different objects to which it relates.

Toward God, holiness is . . .
supreme love;
delight in His moral character;
submission to His will;
obedience to His commands;
zeal for His cause;
seeking of His glory.

Toward Christ, holiness is . . .
conformity to His example,
imbibing His spirit.

Toward man, holiness is . . .
charity,
integrity,
truth,
mercy.

Toward sin, holiness is a hatred of all iniquity,
a tender conscience easily wounded by little sins,
and scrupulously avoiding them; together with a
laborious, painful, self-denying, mortification of
all the known corruptions of our heart.

Toward self, holiness is . . .
the control of our fleshly appetites;
the eradication of our pride;
the mortification of our selfishness.

Toward divine things in general, holiness is . . .
spirituality of mind,
the habitual current of godly thought,
godly affections flowing through the soul.

And, toward the objects of the unseen world,
holiness is heavenly-mindedness, a turning away
from things seen and temporal, to things unseen
and eternal.

Oh, what a word is holiness! How much does
it comprehend! How little is it understood, and
how much less is it practiced!

Lord - help me where I fail in this!

Daniels, you are such a blessing! Thank you.
