  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I think money is a hobby to me. I invest, I read about economies and investing, I like it, I spend time on it, but when I lose it, I don't freak out and jump out of a tall building.

Other than that, does finishing my basement count as a hobby?

I enjoy playing games as a hobby, especially chess. I play at www.chessclub.com frequently. Anyone, if you go to that site, look for "Reilly", that's my screen name there, and I would like to play you. I play just for fun, and you will probably beat me if you are a long-term player. I play slow 30-minute games, but also like 1-minute bullet games too. The 1-minute bullet games are really fun..even if you make some really bad moves you still have a chance if you can beat the clock against your opponent!

I also play Scrabble online at www.zone.com and I am "reillync" there. Happy scrabbling if I see you there!

I guess I should put movies as a hobby too. I'm more then halfway done coverting my basement into a theater. Just need paint and light fixtures, then I'll move the AV equipment down there and have a dinner and a movie party...

I-Don't-Know's on third.
I've already said several times before that I fly airplanes for (hopefully soon) a living, but they're fun too.

Besides that:
- biking (not seriously)
- running (working on my first marathon)
- kiting (definitely not seriously)
- reading (working on Augustine's Confessions)
- computer stuff (Completely addicted to playing and modding Bethesda Softworks' Morrowind. Finally taught self how to script.)
- conversation (Big. Very big. I wish the US had the equivalent of a pub or something, Starbucks is good but not for 8+ people and restaurants get too expensive.)

On Saturday evening me and my friend watched 3 movies together on my laptop.

We watched Scorched (which is very funny!), Memento (that is crazy, but gotta be one of the best films made) and Pirates of the Caribbean (what a film!!!). We also played a bit of fifa 2003 inbetween films!!!

My main interest is cars. I like working on them, racing them, and detailing them. I race my car all the time and that is a good way to relieve stress, etc...... I have also just recently started playing golf. I never knew swinging a stick could be so hard. :D I have yet to get it 10 feet in the air. Oh well I'm trying though.

Where do you race em? Not street racing right? :p I tend to do that a bit too much and the police seem not to like it!!!

You are asking the right guy then! I work alot on my Cobra tweaking it, modifying it and what not, and I also have '65 Mustang that my dad and I are restoring. Let me know what you need help on and I'll be more than happy to assist you. :)

What does "double clutch" on acceleration in a race mean? I've always wondered and never got a straight answer.

Well for one thing, you deffinitely do not want to double clutch while you are accelerating. It's a way to match the rev's to slow down or to get a really big burst of energy if you are racing from a roll. (aka "Rev-Matching") Basically what it means is say you want to downshift from 4th gear to 2nd. You push in the clutch and slip it into neutral, release the clutch, blip the throttle to where you think the RPM's will be when it goes into second, push in clutch and shift to second and release clutch. There really is no way of saying what RPM to rev to as it all depends on the car. The best way to find out is just to experiment. Most all newer cars have rev limiters which will keep you from blowing the engine if you rev too high. So don't be afraid to experiment with it. Good luck and have fun.

P.S. Please feel free to ask more questions on it if I didn't make sense on any of it. It is quite a simple process but very complex when defining it.

Oh and if your car is not so good - you will blow the engine - I did that on my friend's old car that I was racing!!!

I would not do in on my car as it is a diesel!!!

And I wanna have a 66 Mustang Selby GT, my dream car!!! How much would one cost in the States, good price?

Walk me through it on the quarter mile for something like, say, a GTO (if that's where you want to use the technique). I think I get the reason for it, but it sounds hard to do when all you've got is mere seconds to work with.

BTW: I won't be practicing on my car. It's a wimpy 4 cyl. Saturn. I prefer slow cars with standard transmission. I drive like a grandmother and it keeps me from tempting the police. :)

These are the kinds of speed machines I drool over:
