• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

For those of you who suffer from anxiety, how do you try to deal with it? I cycle into it about once a week to 10 days. Came on today. No rhyme or reason, just cycles in and out. Depakote has helped a little lately but the anxiety broke through today. Took extra Ativan and it didn't seem to help. Meditated on Scripture but it just seemed like words. Hard to concentrate. Not sure if this made much sense, just typing. Will see new doc on Nov. 7.

Anxiety, for me is one of the hardest sympotms of bp to deal with. (the other one is anger.) Some of us with bp have enough anxiety that we are also diagnosed with anxiety disorder. Some of the antidepressants work well for anxiety, but the ativan (benzodiazpene class drugs) have been the cornerstone of anxiety meds for years. They all can develop tolerance to some degree and become less effective over time. I have used them. Currently on the right meds have not needed them for over a year, but still have anxiety, it is just more manageable. The best thing for me when I had my anxiety was those relaxation tapes that included scripture so I could take my meds, lay down and listen to soothing sounds and God's words about fear and focus on the Bible that way, turning those verses into prayers as I listened and began to rest. In those moments of anxiety, I could not read and focus on God's word or even pray and focus on God's promises, I was too far gone. Listening was the only way that worked. I still have to do this when I get startled. The most recent time was when my hubby was listening to a Pink Floyd concert on PBS-my borther who abused me loved that group and the music is a major trigger to me.

The funny thin though is, I learn better by reading something or doing domething. I am not a auditory learner, but for some reason when I am most near fear and panic, my normal channels of learning shut down and the only way that has worked for me is auditory. Strange, huh?

So perhaps it is something different than what would normally work for you, that would help you in these times as well.

I am continuing in my prayers for you. And I will pray for this next Dr appt!!!:groupray:

Anxiety is one of my main battles. It's a very hard thing to deal with sometimes, even with meds. I try to use my coping skills, and when they don't work, the meds step in, when those don't work, I try to pray. I really feel for you for when you're head is running a thousand thoughts per second and it seems that the more you try to concentrate the more overwhelmed you become it's hard to do much of anything. It's a hard storm to ride out, but with prayer, you'll come through. And you can count on your friends for that! Lots of prayers goin up for you!

It's not any better than it was 9 days ago. This has gone on really long. The new thing that happens is I get a very uncomfortable shot of adrenaline when I wake up either in the morning or from a nap. Morning is terrible. Then after I get up, the first thing I want to do is lie down again. So anxious and yet so tired I have to lie down much of the day. And I think, what kind of life is this?

I took extra Ativan on Sunday so I could have a decent day but that's just a short term thing. I want to try Neurontin/Gabapentin which I can get through rxoutreach.com if my new doctor thinks it would be good. Other than that I'm losing hope. I've tried so many drugs.

I'm doing my best to accept His will, do His will and am keeping up with spiritual disciplines.

Thanks for asking.

lemonflavor,

I too tried them all, took 10 years to get the right diagnosis and then many meds to get the right one. I am praying tha you will find the right med/combo with this new doc and that your wait willnot be so long!!!:groupray:
