• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I'm drinking almost daily,ok daily. Not always like on Sunday's I don't because I can't. I've been doing this one or two beers a day thing since end of school, roughly a month now and it's a crutch. makes me feel better before bed and makes me not feel. i'm thinking this could lead to alcoholism.

Been sitting on my shame and embarracement that I gotta say it:

2 weekends ago, for every reason, no reason, good reason, bad reason, dont matter reason, I blew almost 4 yrs of being clean and sober.

please keep me in your prayers.

Recovery is truly one day at a time.

Norm

I'm proud of you for being sober for almost 4 years--- I'm sorry you had a bad weekend... it's important to realize it happened and why, but I'm still proud of you for staying sober for 4 years.:hug:

Every day you MUST keep trying and I know you will. I'll be cheering you on and praying for you!!:clap::prayer:

Yes, abuse of alcohol will lead to alcoholism. I started drinking in high school and when I moved away to college I went out-of-control (because I could).

You are walking into a state of hell. Run, don't walk, away from this habit before you can't or don't think you want to. It is not the path that will lead to a good life.

I know it's hard, and sometimes painful, but you have to learn to feel and accept your feelings. You'll have learn how to deal with your feelings someday, might as well start now.

God bless.

Hey Norm, how are you doing? Are you going to meetings? How's that new job going?

You know, we could all "slip" so easily. It just takes a moment of forgetting how bad it got and what life was REALLY like as a user.

I hope it's going well for you. God Bless.

Healy,
I have been out of town since July 30 and have just seen this post.
There is help for you in a 12 step program and in Celebrate Recovery. Go to Alcoholic Anonymous meetings. Also go to the internet and in a search engine type in Celebrate Recovery. Hopefully there is a CR in a church in your town. CR is a 12 step program that is Christ centered. You will find help in both programs.
Please let me know here at CF what kind of help you have found. I will answer what ever questions you have.
With Christian love.
Diana

Hi, I'm Mandie and I have all the makings of an alcoholic. Well, probably not all. I come from a family with a few alcoholics in our history, and when I have more than two drinks I just want to keep going and going and going. I was an alcoholic in college (no, it isn't just a college thing to drink so very very much as I did). Meeting my husband gave me the reason and support that I needed to change my lifestyle. He was the final step in my search for God.

Once in a while I slip back into my old habits, and on occasion it makes me horribly stupid, mean, and violent. Now I want to stay sober, always. I hope this forum can be somewhere I can come for support when I feel like I want or need a drink!

Thanks for being here everyone.

Welcome Mandie,

It sounds like you are still wondering if you can drink like normal people. That is very normal, in fact, this is a great obsession of every abnormal drinker. We have all struggled with this.

Alcoholism is a two part disease. The first part is a physical craving for more once you start. You seem to admit this is a problem, so I won't dwell on it.

The second part is our mental state before we take the first drink. We think that this time will be different. This time we will be able to control it. This time we will be like normal people. The best way to test for this problem is to swear off alcohol for a year. If you can do it without counting down the days, then you might not have this problem. But if you find excuses here and there to drink, then you should treat this as a serious problem. It will only get worse, never better.

You say that you were an alcoholic in college. Alcoholism cannot be turned on and off. If you were then, then you are now. However, the good news is that if you are, you can recover. It is possible to never have a mental obsession to drink. I no longer think about drinking, and I no longer think about not drinking. This is a wonderful freedom.

If I can help you, please feel free to ask.
