  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Now that's a list brother! If I can grab Mounce's Greek, Bavinck's Reformed Dogmatics and Stott's The Bible Speaks Today New Testament Commentary or Beale / Carson's Commentary on the New Testament Use of the Old Testament this year, I'll be blessed... and a happy camper

We're in 1 Samuel and will start on David next week! Amazing how much I'm learning while sharing with the ladies! So much theology and doctrine in 1 Samuel! Very rich and deep! The Lord shows us what our heart should be like, not our practice particularly but our heart and mind! Challenging! I'm loving it!
Thanks for asking Cyg! Blessings!
P.S. I'm reading The LIfe of David but cannot get through all the parts I need for my study in time! That book takes pondering! Truly wonderful and I thank you for suggesting it!

it's been a long time but I've met (momentarily) both Horton & Zacharias when they were speaking at Reformed conferences in Toledo (not at the same time). I'm storing up on books because I'm going to be on a LOA from mid-May to the end of June. Will need to occupy my mind so I don't go nuts.

Also bought a copy of Atlas Shrugged to read (haven't read it since high school all those years ago). Given the current politics of the land I thought now would be a good time to re-read.

Too many abbreviations Edie. What in the world is 'LOA'?

Main point: You have to be careful with Ayn Rand. She was by no means a 'nice' person (no big deal, neither am i as those who have met me can tell you). Objectivism, Rand's socio/economic doctrine is built on many false premises.

Rand's main inconsistency is that without God, there is no such thing as 'rights', individual or group, so she speaks nonsense from her atheistic perspective (even though her reasoning process is solid, her presuppositions are wrong).

For those who believe that rights are God-given, i believe that Libertarianism is probably the most biblically consistent view that exists*, acknowledging and compensating for man being totally depraved, yet also demonstrating the legitimacy and need of human government in a few areas of society.

*Yes, i acknowledge that there are differences of opinion on this board, and even "Christian Libertarianism" has problems due to it being derived by fallen human beings. Most consistent does NOT equal perfectly consistent.

Please understand I am not criticizing but only curious as to why a believer would desire to read the works of an atheist?
To get intelligence information from the enemy for the purpose of refutation.

The same way that the Apostle Paul acted on Mars Hill.
